Develop your intuition and work with your gut feeling

Intuition has been described as a sense of knowing, a feeling or a hunch.
Most of us have experienced this at some stage of our life, it may be a strong feeling some time and seemingly non existent at others.
There are some simple and fun exercises to help you to develop your intuition skills and work some magic into your daily life. Good and reliable intuition is something we can all use and the more you work with it the stronger it will become, imagine your intuitive muscles being flexed on a daily basis and getting bigger.
The more you exercise your intuition skills, the stronger your intuition becomes.

Intuition happens naturally

Learn to be still and listenIntuition cannot be taught, it is not part of any curriculum, the intuition does not come from the intellect and there is no blue print or fail safe
The exercises I will show you are designed to prepare yourself to be intuitive, they will not teach you intuition.
let me explain, intuition is beyond intelligence, you can be a great intellectual genius yet you may not be intuitive, or at least you may not be aware of your intuition.

To open your intuition you must become still, listen to your dreams and hunches and not always try to over analyze everything. This is what the intellect does, not the realm of the intuition. Following your intuition is giving in to hunches and the gut feelings and also listening to your dreams.

You may not always find out whether your hunches or gut feelings are "right", but you can be assured that once you learn to live trusting those hunches and gut feelings your life will improve.

Exercise stillness

Learning to be still and quieten the mind is the first step in allowing your intuition to flow.
Take a long solitary walk in nature, this could be in a park or on a beach.
Let your mind empty itself of worries and just appreciate nature and being away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Concentrate on your breath and just feel yourself walking steadily, let your breath flow gently and feel your lungs expanding.
Try to make this a solitary walk if you can, by being alone you do not have to feel obliged to talk or interact with anyone, this is an exercise in stillness and solitude.

Your intuition needs to be validated

Acknowledge your intuition and it will get stronger

This is not always the easiest part. We have a tendency to analyse and intellectualise our thoughts and when a hunch or intuitive insight arises we easily dismiss it as silly or illogical.

Let me give an example:

I was looking forward to going to a party at some friends place a few kilometers out of town. I really looked forward to it and even purchased a new outfit, however on the day I started to feel uneasy and did not want to go anymore. There was no logical reason, I was well, had plenty of energy and had a new outfit, so why did I not want to go?
I pushed aside my misgivings and got dressed up and ready to go, all is going well so far, my strange feelings pushed away I set off.
Thirty minutes later, I stood next to my broken down car wondering why I had not listened to my intuition.
Had I stayed home I would have still missed the party but I would have been comfortable and warm instead of waiting for road assistance alone on a deserted road. The car would probably still have broken down, but this would have happened in town and during the day.

Often we don't listen to our intuition because we fear being silly and irrational. After all, There was no apparent rational reason as to why I did not feel like going to the party anymore.

Here we find that by validating our feelings and hunches, we acknowledge our inner knowing, the very core of our intuitive being, and the more we listen to it, the stronger the intuition becomes.

Intuition....

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

Exercises to open up your intuition

These are various games and exercises to help you in working with your intuition.
One of the many things I am asked is:
"how do I distinguish a real flash of intuition from mere wishful thinking or fear?"
My answer is always the same:
'Keep doing it"

-When the phone rings, take a moment to see whose image or what thought pops in your head. Don't analyze it, and make sure that you pick the very first image or thought.

-When in a new situation or in meeting someone for the first time, take note on how you feel: does your body feel light or do you feel suddenly heavy?
There is no need to ask why just go with the feeling and take note. If a situation or person make you feel ill, you may need to take a step back.

-Start keeping and Intuition journal, write down those feelings and impressions. Make sure to note your hits and misses, just dont forget it is not a race or a score keeping, this is for you to know how you are coming along, it will also be very useful in starting to recognize how your intuition manifests itself.

-Take note of any dreams you remember, write them down immediately upon waking. Keep a dream journal, before going to sleep write down a question you would like answered, maybe ask for a way to resolve a difficult situation. You may find your answer in one of your dreams.

-Play guessing games, guess the colour of the next car to come down the street.

Relax....

Be still...

Take a deep breath....and...

A mother's intuition

Parents intuition or groundless worrying

We often hear about "mother's intuition", I should add here "father's intuition" as well, intuition is not gender specific.

If you are a parent , you more than likely experienced those intuitive flashes regarding your child's welfare. I know that when my own child was at school I always sensed when something wasn't right, I did not always act on it thinking that I was just worrying for nothing, but the day I jumped in the car on impulse and drove to her school, she had been injured. It was nothing too serious but she was distressed and needed me.

It is not so easy however to discern between your intuition telling you something and your over active mind telling you something else altogether. This is why there is a big emphasis on learning to relax and still the mind.

Meditation help

Meditation cd's are a great way to relax the mind

Relax and still the mind and you can make way for intuition.
If you have never had any training in meditation, this is the easiest way to start, just pop in a CD, find a quiet place and just listen. I would not recommend that you play it in your car however, you need your full attention while driving!

Meditate daily

Still your mind to listen to your inner voice

Meditating is not so difficult, the hardest part is making it a regular feature in your daily life.
The best time for meditating is early in the morning just after waking up and before having any breakfast. start your daily routine by going to the bathroom and drink a glass of warm water.
Find a quiet spot where you won't be disturbed and sit quietly on a cushion on the floor or even on a straight backed chair. The aim is to be comfortable enough without being too comfortable and drifting back to sleep

Method:

Close your eyes and focus on your breath, just observe your breath without any judgment or trying any change in breath pattern, Thoughts will come up but don't worry, gently push them aside and go back to your breath.

That's it for the beginning, try to do this daily for at least 15 minutes.

Any chance you have through the day just focus on your breath.

Breathe nice and deep, try to do this if you feel that you are getting flustered or angry or whenever you need to relax and take a breath
