Spiritual Journey of Lama Khemsar
Lama Khemsar Rinpoche is one of the few Bon Lamas who live and teach in the western world. He is in wide demand and teaches extensively in Europe and the US. Besides Tibetan, he also speaks and gives teachings in English, Italian, Hindi, Nepali, Sikkimese and Bhutanese.
Biographical View of Lama Khemsar
He was born in Southern Tibet, where he and his elder brother Lama Sonam G.Khemsar are the lineage holders of their two monasteries.Rinpoche's education in the ways of Tibetan Yungdrung Bön started at age 5. As he aged he went on to study under many great masters including Kharnei Ghelong Yungdrung Gyaltsen Rinpoche, Zhu Rizhing Lasey Rinpoche, Geshe Sherab Namdak, Aa-dho Ponlob Rinpoche and Gheghen Trowo Kha Rinpoche.
Rinpoche's education was temporarily interrupted in 1959, during the Cultural Revolution, when, he - along with many other Tibetans was forced to flee Tibet on foot in search of refuge. During this period, he endured many extreme hardships, such as dire poverty, homelessness (having to sleep in the wilderness), starvation, and ill health. Tragically, his 5 year old sister died during the crossing. Eventually, he arrived in India.
He was lucky enough to attend a modern school in Darjeeling. During this period, and subsequently in Dolanji, he continued with his traditional spiritual studies and practices under the tutelage of many prominent teachers including with Menri Trizin Lungtog Tenpei Nyima Rinpoche. He also completed the traditional three year retreat under the guidance of Lama Tenpa Gyatsho who died in Bhutan in 1998.
During this period, he also studied Buddhism under several Buddhist Lamas including Geshe Lobsang Tharchin, Samdong Tulku and Chamchen Rinpoche etc. He explored many other faiths too including Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In doing so, he discovered that the lessons taught and the wisdom insights gained therein are, in essence, similar and compatible with his own Yungdrung Bön Tradition. He thus welcomes all who attend his teachings and stresses that, as common themes tend to run through all the spiritual paths, it is possible to use his teachings to complement and enhance the teachings of other paths and vice versa.
Rinpoche became accomplished and well-versed in the philosophical and spiritual practices of Bön and Buddhism, Tibetan medicine, ancient folk remedies, healing arts, Tibetan astrology and astronomy, authentic Jung-wei Trog-chod (Tibetan Feng Shui) and various types of ritual crafts.
How bout a gift for your Buddhist loved one.

During the time Lama Khemsar spent in India, he along with the other Bönpo Lamas re-established the Bön Tradition at Dolanji, northern India. For a time he taught Tibetan Refugee children. There now exists a thriving Bön Monastic College and community settlement in Donjoli. If you enjoyed this lens, please visit my other sites as well at:

Buddhists Use Mandalas to Represent the Universe
Mandala art has been used throughout the world for self-expression, spiritual transformation, and personal growth. Mandala is the ancient Sanskrit word for circle and is seen by Tibetans as a diagram of the cosmos. It is used by native Americans in healing rituals and in Christian cathedrals the labyrinth is a mandalic pattern used as a tool for meditation. An archetypal symbol of wholeness, the mandala was sued as a therapeutic art tool by psychologist Carl Jung, who believed creating mandalas helped patients to make the unconscious conscious. Joseph Campbell brought mandalas to the public's attention in The Power of Myth (1988): "In working out a mandala ... you draw a circle and then think of the different impulse systems and value systems in your life.... Making a mandala is a discipline for pulling all those scattered aspects of your life together, finding a center." Mandala: Journey to the Center provides insights into the significance of mandalas and helps you to use them as a path to greater self-awareness. Mandala offers over 400 breathtaking color photographs of mandalas in manifestations from art, architecture, and nature -- from Buddhist paintings to the Pantheon to atomic structures, and explores how the mandala has been used throughout history and is relevant today as a tool for meditation, personal growth, and expression. Mandala features a gallery of worldwide contemporary mandala art accompanied by inspirational stories from the artists who created them, and provides exercises and examples of specific techniques for making one's own mandalas. Exploring the mandala can lead us on a journey to wholeness, helping us discover the center within ourselves and beyond.
