I am green with envy, I soooo want to go to Bhutan. This is such an informative lens, a great read. The books you recommend look very good and I will look up Windhorse tours. Thank you for this lens!

Sounds like you had the trip of a lifetime. I have heard of Bhutan, but admittedly knew nothing about the place. Wonderfully done lens. Thank you for sharing information and your experiences there.

Your photos are amazing! This is definitely one country I would love to visit, and I'm green with envy that you actually saw Mt. Everest. That's awesome! I'm favoriting this so some day when I can afford to make the trip I can remember what travel agency to use. A good tour group makes all the difference.

Hi: I've read that in Bhutan instead of measuring Gross Domestic Product they measure Gross National Happiness. Great lens!

    Hi,
Like your I have travelled to Bhutan and I must say I find two of your geographical facts very hard to imagine. Mount Kailash is in the extreme western end of Tibet and cannot be visible from Bhutan (it is clear on the other side of Nepal). The same goes for Mt.Everest, it is about halfway along Nepalifrom Bhutan and north of it. Also, Bhutan does not have a president, it has a king and it is not the present king that coined the idea of gross national happiness, but his father. Other than that: I totally agree with you. My trip was also organised by Windhorse and it was excellently done.

Bhutan is a lovely place, and I'm lensrolling this lens to my Tibet, Nepal & South Asia lens. One serious issue with Bhutan, however, is the way the country has treated the Nepalis who lived there for generations. Because of that treatment, many of them have been stuck in UN-run refugee camps for years. The issue has received very little coverage outside of S. Asia, and certainly visitors to Bhutan don't get to see this less compassionate side of the government.

Nice work! I like the pictures of Bhutan. I've actually never heard of this country, but it looks interesting and beautiful. Seeing the old lens format brings back some Squidoo memories too!
