Circling the Sacred Mountain
The Buddhists believe that you gain spiritual merit by circumambulating her and their name for her is Mt. Meru or another name for her is Kang Rinpoche or The Precious Snow mountain. This is the key to liberation. The locals also have another name for this sacred mountain which is Chomolungma.
The Bonpos, the original shamanic people of Tibet, are the ones who originated the practice of flying prayer flags on the mountain. The Bon call the mountain Mt. Tise and the nearby lake, Lake Mapham (Manasarovar). They beleive it to be the birthplace of Shenrab Miwoche.
Kailash is a 22,028-foot peak known in the west as Mt. Everest. To the faithful of Asia Kailas is the supreme mountain. When they are ready to pursue the path to enlightenment they go to Mt. Kalaish to reach nirvana.
Global warming is having a negative impact on the snow levels on Mt. Kalais. So please be conscious and use green energy in any way possible.

Schedule Your Flight for Your Trek
Get Away to Mt. Kailash or Mt. Everest
If you are ready for the magic and adventure of Mt. Kalaish, or Mt. Everest to trek or to circumambulate, you can start out your trip by going to another Buddhist country Thailand. Most people from the west go to Bancock first and spend a few days adjusting to time changes and do some site seeing and then head on to Tibet. My personal experience when I traveled to Bhutan with Windhorse Tours was excellent - http://www.windhorsetours.com I highly recommend them. Tell them Marsha Camblin sent you. What I liked about Windhorse Tours was they allowed you to customize your tour to your liking. So to start you out let's get you to Bancock.

- I've talked to people who have been to this sacred mountain and I've have seen their slides of it and of Lake Manasarovar. Thanks for making this lens. I would LOVE to see it in person one day! Until then, I have to get my fix by renting "Kundun" or "Seven Years in Tibet" from time to time. And what was that great TV special about the boy from America who was a possible candidate for the next Dalai Lama... 5 stars, of course!
