My Seven Suggestions On the Diabetes Diet and How The Diabetic Can Survive the Holidays and Parties

This lens covers my suggestions on how to survive all the holidays and parties.  Diabetics are especially challenged through this time.  However, you do need to despair!  Hope is here!



Remember, this is the time to be festive. It is party time. You are going to eat so plan on it. If your sugar levels get a little high, don't beat yourself over the head. Stay positive.

Suggestion Number One: Stay Positive.

Set and develop a plan to keep it reasonable. I have learned one important thing as a diabetic. My attitude is the most important control mechanism I have. My mind is better than any shot or pill. I am in charge of my diabetes. I can control it!

Remember your stomach can only hold so much. During the holidays lots of people go to parties very hungry. No wonder they eat too much. Make certain you have a reasonable breakfast and lunch the day of the party. Eat a yogurt or other healthy snack before you land.

I am a firm believer here. I had a diabetic blackout once and the first thing the paramedics checked was my bracelet. It had my doctor's name, my major medical problems and my preferred hospital. It can be a life saver!

Don't hide your diabetes. A medical alert jewelry ID informs everyone and reminds you always that you must be on watch. If you don't have one get one! Also, make sure someone at the gathering knows you have diabetes. If your blood sugars drop too low and you become hypoglycemic someone should be able to recognize you need help.
