I am a type 2 diabetic, and respectfully speaking, I am really surprised by the foods you list to eat in your Food Therapy, as many of them cause my blood sugar to go up to dangerous levels for hours. These foods include any type of rice, and at least 50% of the fruits on your list. I currently am trying to control my blood sugar without medications through a very low-carb diet, sugar lowering herbs, and exercise, but so far I can only lower my fasting glucose readings to 140-150.

I would love to eat all the foods on your Food Therapy list, but quite frankly since I know many of them like Rice will raise my blood sugar, I am afraid to try.

You make a good point. Those items which cause your blood sugar to rise, I would recommend minimizing, doing what you know is effective. However, the underlying condition is really due to long term ingestion of polluting foods that cause your particular body type to stop or minimally process excesses. Everyone is different, thus assessment is essential. The condition requires more than just avoiding high glycemic foods to correct the problem. Its really a systemic concern with the Pancreatic function reflecting symptomatically.

BTW, I would like to see which foods disagree with your requirements. I will include them in the section under high glycemic foods which I need to finish. I will go further and include addl. data which will make it more useful. Thanks, Mark

Thank you Mark for your kind reply. Am I correct in thinking that you believe relief from Diabetes can be achieved through a mainly Vegetarian diet? And if so, must the diet be a Raw vegetarian diet, or is this not important?

Seeing that my current low-carb diet mainly consists of simple salads, organic eggs, lean meats and fish, I would surely welcome switching over to a vegetarian diet with the fruits & vegetables you have on your Food Therapy list just for the variety I would have, as my current diet is incredibly boring and very hard to stick to, as I naturally like variety in my foods. However, since many of the foods on your list I already know raise my blood sugar, I may have to experiment and just try the foods on your list for a month and see if my body will correct itself on it's own with this type of diet. My low-carb eating may be very boring and monotonous, but at least I know it doesn't raise my blood sugar.

Since you are master Herbalist, do you recommend any particular herbs for healing the Pancreas? I was taking a formula by Dr. Christopher for healing the Pancreas with the following ingredients:

    cedar berries
    golden seal
    uva ursi
    cayenne
    licorice root
    mullein

The main ingredient he stated that cures the Pancreas is Cedar berries (Juniperus Monosperma), but I had to stop taking the formula as the Cayenne in it irritated my GI tract.

I am taking about 10 different sugar lowering herbs right now, so I'm doing my best to beat this problem. Thanks again for your input.

I am taking about 10 different sugar lowering herbs right now, so I'm doing my best to beat this problem. Thanks again for your input.

The key concept with diabetes that I subscibe to for correction is cleansing. Given there are 6 basic constitutions, each body type needs a different strategy for detox. There is not a one-way fits all infirmed. The fastest way to accomplish is a vegetarian. With more meat protein the process is slower. Just skip the foods that you think will increase your blood sugar. There are enough high blood sugar lists that you can reference regarding a final appropriate fit for you.

I do not take the position that my herb formulas cure but rather assist they assist the body so the life force is optimized to perform the real healing.

I have a Chinese master formula called, Diabetalin that I use to managing the blood sugar. Paramalin is provided to cool the liver which is overwhelmed by excess toxicity. "Sea V" is available for individuals who overwhelmed by inflammation and potential loss of leg due to amputation. Each of these formulas contain about 10 ingredients on average. The primary ingredients in the Pancreas formula is Tian hua fen and Ge Gen. however what makes them work is the synergetic actions when combined with 8 other ingredients.

There are many manufacturers who just throw together all the herbs that supposedly work for the Pancreas that do absolutely nothing but take your money. First you need to be assessed then have the appropriate formulation applied. I have studied and applied most of the herbal practices in the world. I have found that Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine are the most sophisticated while most of the other natural medicines borrow from them.

I am pregnant with my first child and was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes...you have a lot of interesting info on your lens, but I think it would be wise to include a disclaimer that people are, in fact, different and respond differently to some foods. For example, you recommend bananas in the fruit section for people with Diabetes, but bananas make my sugar levels sky-rocket!
  • HERBMASTER Mar 23, 2011 @ 2:35 am | delete
Yes in fact, the standard of Chinese medicine is no one is the same. There are different constitution types that contribute to causation of symptoms. Likewise, the blood sugar range that is applied to all does not take into consideration that some people function better at lower level of BS and some higher. Cholesterol levels are changing regarding standards. Blood pressure is being lowered regarding what is considered normal. These and more are applied to all. However, the seasoned practitioner uses his better judgment as to what contributes to each person's optimal healing response. Thanks for your comment. It makes us all think about the complexities of imbalanced conditions.

My grandpa died of heart failure a year ago. He was diabetic and already sick but he was taking that drug Avandia, that I'm pretty sure played a role in his heart's deterioration.

    DON'T TAKE AVANDIA!
