What is Type 1 Diabetes?
There is a hormone in your body called insulin. Insulin is secreted by your organ called the pancreas. What happens is that any meal or sugar that you eat will cause the pancreas to secret the right amount of insulin to take the nutrients that you have eaten to feed the individual cells in your body.
However what happens when you have diabetes type 1 is that your immune system attacks the insulin producing cells of the pancreas. Although the immune system of the body is made to trigger an attack against foreign bodies, like bacteria, in you system. Instead it attacks parts of your body which results in a lack of insulin produced by your own body.
One type of sugar that the insulin moves to our cells is called glucose. Glucose is an important sugar for the functioning of our cells. It brings energy to our system. However when we have type 1 diabetes this whole system is thrown into a mess. What happens is the whole body goes into alert because the sugar in our blood from our food was not distributed to the cells that need it.
The blood is now full of sugar. Our cells are screaming for sugar. And our body must look elsewhere for the energy that supposed to be supplied to our cells by the insulin bearing sugar.

Taking Care of the Diabetes Type 1
It is a sad fact that diabetes type 1, also known as juvenile diabetes, comes on rapidly. The four (4) normal signs of the onset of diabetes type 1 are frequent peeing or urination, constant and frequent extreme thirst, possibly but not necessarily an increased appetite or hunger, and finally rapid weight loss.
When the blood sugar or glucose in the blood rises other signs will appear, there can be blurred vision, loss of the appetite they just started to increase, they can be constantly sleepy and there can be stomach pains and vomiting.
Since the body is not making insulin as it should it is obvious that insulin is still needed. The need for insulin to be taken will be necessary. For children as well as adults one way to get insulin is the insulin pump. This is much better and less traumatic than being given daily shots with a needle.
There can be other treatments to go along with the taking of the insulin but you should always consult your doctor. The other treatments can be things like meditation, acupuncture and herbal supplements.
It is always important to watch the diet of a diabetic as well as maintaining moderate exercise. This is useful even for those who are not diabetic.

Living with Diabetes Type 1
Type 1 diabetes is manageable. However it is a planned journey through life that must be taken.
Eating right is always hard but as a person with Juvenile Diabetes it is that much harder. So that is why it is important to impart the real reasons why diet is a must.
Stress will increase the difficulty of keeping the diabetes under control but stress is an important part of life everyone must learn to deal with it in their own way.
Aspirin should be avoided with all the complications that can come from it but especially because it should not be given to anyone under 20 because it can lead to Reyes Syndrome.
Plan ahead. If you are going out to eat know what is available and teach your child how to chose the right meal. If you have to call ahead.
Again, exercise is a must. There is no getting around this. You can't coddle or stop exercising it is an important part of the controlling of diabetes.
