Living with diabetes can be a challenge. One of that hardest, yet most essential part of diabetes treatment is learning to maintain a proper diet. Foods you once ate may now make you extremely sick. Some foods you may be able to consume but in moderation, and still other foods may help keep you healthy. Here are a few tips that can help make your diet diabetes friends.
3 Rules to Live By
- Eat Complex Carbohydrates
There are two main types of carbohydrates. Simple, and complex. Simple carbohydrates like candies, cookies, cakes, and soft drinks will enter your blood stream quickly and can cause your sugar to sky rocket. Complex carbohydrates on the other hand, break down at a slower rate and therefore, keep your blood sugar level relatively stable. - Create a Eating Schedule
The best way to maintain your sugar level when it comes to food consumption is regulating your eating habits. creating and sticking to a meal schedule is a great way to make sure you have what you need when you need it. - Limit Alcohol Consumption
While it's highly recommended you just avoid alcohol all together, sometimes you may be tempted to indulge. Since alcohol is much like a simple carbohydrate, even a small dose can impact your blood sugar level. If you do consume alcohol, be sure to do so in moderation and never on an empty stomach.
