I'm Always on the lookout for Diamond Tennis Bracelets
Where did that name come from?
When I first heard the word "tennis bracelet" some years ago, I wondered what kind of bracelet this could possibly be. I first figured it might be some kind of esoteric medicinal bracelet to cure a tennis arm, but soon found out why it is called that.
The name "tennis bracelet" goes back to an incident that took place at the US Open in 1987. Chris Evert, who was the no. 1 woman tennis player of the world, wore a diamond bracelet while playing a tennis match. The bracelet broke and spilled the diamonds, launching Ms. Evert into a frenzied search for the precious diamonds, while the match was interrupted. This incident led to the name "tennis bracelet" and sparked a huge jewelry trend.
Today, many tennis bracelets come with reinforced clasps, so we don't have to see any more women crawling over tennis courts ;-)
Why I Love Tennis Bracelets
Tennis bracelets are a fabulous way to spice up your ensemble. They're unobtrusive and go with almost any type of outfit. You can wear them to a casual jeans and blouse outfit as well as with a business costume or your little black dress. They're relatively inexpensive (as long as you don't go for the gold/diamond option), so you can own several of them in different styles.
My Favorite Tennis Bracelet Styles
Tennis bracelets come in several different forms and designs. They're available in sterling silver, white gold, yellow gold and platinum and bear several different types of stones. The most popluar stones are jade, sapphire, peridot, quartz, amethyst, topaz and, of course, diamond. Prices vary greatly, depending on the material and the stones. Sterling silver bracelets with a peridot start at $80, 18kt gold with diamond bracelets can cost up to $20.000. With so many styles to choose from, I find myself having a hard time choosing a personal favorite. The top of the line gold/diamond styles sadly don't fit my budget (that may change...someday...), but there are many styles available in lower price ranges. Everyone knows that diamonds are a girl's best friend, and rumor has it that I'm no exception to that rule ;-) So the less expensive gold/diamond styles with 14kt and smaller stones are definitely at the top of my list. For light summer dresses I prefer the topaz stone styles, which are very affordable. For good measure I also keep 2 sterling silver bracelets in my drawer, one with an amethyst and the other with a topaz.
Where Do You Go For Good Deals On Tennis Bracelets?
Your local jeweler is, of course, always an option. But, as with almost anything, the Web is the best place to find great deals. Jewelry is a rather high-margin market and as such offers great bargains, if you know where to look.

Be sure to look or ask for the GIA certification sign when buying a diamond bracelet. GIA is the Gemological Institute of America, a nonprofit organization committed to the study and research of gemstones. Diamonds that are certified are sure to be of high quality and genuine.

As I'm always strapped for cash local jewelers are not an option. Additionally, the variety in online shops is typically much greater than with any brick and mortar shop, and that's no different with jewelry.
Most shops offer money-back guarantess, free shipping and sometimes even 0% payment plans. So there's really no excuse not shopping for jewelry online.
So I started a crusade to find the best deals online. And I hit gold (pun intended).
First off, I found JewelBasket.com. Their selection is h-u-g-e and prices are often times 30% or more off the regular prices you would find at your local jeweler. They have a 5% off and free shipping with orders over $75 deal going on, so check them out.
Next in line: Palm Beach Jewelry. They offer a very nice range of diamond and gemstone bracelets in a variety of qualities for almost any budget, prices are w-a-y below what you would pay elsewhere. If you're totally strapped for cash, they offer payment plans with 0% interest. Additionally, you get free shipping and free gift with every order.
Another very fine dealer is Diamond.com. They, too, offer free shipping and payment plans with a 0% interest. Diamond.com offers some of the finest diamond tennis bracelets at discounts of up to 50% off retail.
That'll be all for now, but I'm still checking out several other online dealers. I'm on the hunt for a gold/diamond bracelet bargain, we'll see what that turns up.
Best wishes
Vanessa
