Diamondback at Kings Island

The Diamondback at Kings Island is one of the best roller coasters in the world. It is one of the fastest and tallest in the world.

As you enter Kings Island and your amazement of the 1/3rd scale Eiffel Tower in International Street begins to wane, you meander through the other sections of this theme park checking out the rides Photo was taken and is owned by my good friend, Paul Drabek, who runs Negative-G. You can see it in his photo trip report.as you go, including Oktoberfest, Coney Mall and Planet Snoopy. As you reach Rivertown however, your eye begins to focus on something a bit taller. You gasp in amazement as the maroon and tan structure towers over everything in the park at 230 feet tall. You watch the train come zooming by at speeds of over 80 miles per hour and all of the sudden, you see a big rooster tail of water shoot out from behind the train. Welcome to the Diamondback!

Kings Island can be classified as one of the roller coaster parks in Ohio as Kings Island boasts a proud number at thirteen different roller coasters. In addition to the many roller coasters including Diamondback, Kings Island is host to many other amusement park rides. This roller coaster ride is designed by Bolliger and Mabillard, one of the premier roller coaster designers of our time.

Diamondback at Kings Island is a great ride with some really great moments including a splashdown at the end, however I feel it could use more ejector air time and it was really lacking in the lateral forces department. I could ride this coaster all day long and never want to get off, though!

Where Diamondback got its theme

A diamondback refers to the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. It is the heaviest venomous snake in the Americas. It is also the largest type of rattlesnake. It has been featured on early flags of the United States. They are considered to be the most dangerous snake in North America.

To promote the hypercoaster, the park put up signs around the construction site that said some of the following:

"Warning"
Steep Incline Ahead.
Slippery when wet...
Move slowly, Do not disturb!!
Run for the hills!!!
Ride, Sally, ride!!!
Easily angered, Do not disturb!!
Avoid sudden moves, Do not disturb!!
Keep your hands and feet away!!
Infrared detectors are in use, Do not disturb!!
Extreme danger, Do not disturb!!
The park strikes back in 2009
