Coming out of the recession that made us all a bit nervous and tightening our pocketbooks... we have pared down to a simple way of looking at things. Big and bold gives us two distinct feelings when it comes to our jewelry: Extravagant and safe. These are the feelings that played out during these tough economic times and now we have a different feeling ahead of us... a sense of relief, a sense of balance and beginning.

Whenever we feel as consumers that the time is right for paring down, we focus on simple designs and simple, warm colors. Plain metals and eco friendly materials: wood, bone, simple and soft semi-precious stones with Earth colors and a simple palette will prevail for 2011. This is our breathing room. This is our nervousness winding down. Gone are the statement necklaces of the past two years and in with the thinner, yet charming and graceful strands. Creativity will overrun our need for security and gentle pairings of blackened metals and all natural materials: pearls, bamboo and recycled media will tone things down considerably.

Pearls will be the big player as we see them with different eyes than ever before. They will convey a sense of hope and simplicity with tones that will match anything in your wardrobe. If the recession keeps us as consumers from buying everything we want and making smarter choices, we will have to go with what we can get the most mileage from. I know one very positive thing: we needed this recession. We needed to correct the overdone hype and over-the-top, crowded marketplace with designers that are not taking themselves too seriously! I welcome the very simple, yet creative work that will be here for us this year.

Diamond Wedding Jewelry 2011

Fashion keeps getting stranger and stranger. Even wearing purple feathers as hair accessories is common these days (I confess. I own a feather headband or two). But when it comes to jewelry, many women opt for tried and true pieces. Diamond journey necklaces, diamond stud earrings and dainty diamond bracelets are the most common items found in a woman's jewelry box. These classic trends aren't going anywhere either. Tried and true jewelry pieces will continue to be popular throughout 2011.

This is because jewelry is a lasting purchase. So when men buy jewelry for women or women buy something for themselves, they don't want it to be a fickle fashion trend. No surprise then that diamond jewelry will continue to be a female's fav this year, but it does not mean there won't be twists. I am the diamond girl after all!

Although the majority of jewelry worn will stay within the classic category, women will also choose to accessorize with bold pieces. Jewelry is a tale of two cities after all. To achieve this bolder look, women will pile on the cuffs and bracelets. Dangle-style earrings channel this more intense look and continue to be a top pick. From diamond drop earrings to gold hoops with diamonds, it's impossible to go wrong with a dangle.

Classic pieces will also be given a bolder look in 2011 by layering jewelry pieces together. This applies to everything from cocktail rings to necklaces. For a unique take on a classic diamond pendant necklace, wrap it around your wrist and transform it into a bracelet, for example. It's fashion forward and classic.

The sky is the limit when it comes to jewelry in 2011. Celestial-themed jewelry is a top pick. Stars and moons are infiltrating the jewelry scene, with diamonds popping up here and there amongst the celestial themes. Flower motifs will also continue to be worn this year, especially sprouting up this spring.

Black and white motifs persist in proving people like dichotomy in their designs. Darkened metals paired with diamonds make a bold statement, as do black diamonds paired with white metal. The color scheme ranges in everything from earrings to bracelets. That said, white on white is a hit too. Diamonds always work well with white gold. Cluster gemstones and diamonds also make their way in everything from necklaces to rings, generating a big look with a smaller price tag.

Textured metals are also a key trend as are antique-style pieces. Old or young, everyone likes jewelry that has a history. This trend ranges from overt antique-like (wearing a coin) to subtle antique-like (wearing a grandmother's diamond pendant necklace).

Although trends vary from person to person, it's safe to say that 2011 will stay classy when it comes to jewelry.

Winter Colors For 2012!

2012 is going to be an exciting year!

A real fashionista always plans her wardrobe beforehand. And while it is still two months ahead before the next fashion season, designers have already supplied us with their ideas for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012. What do jewelry artists, designers and retailers need to know to catch the excitement of the season? My suggestion is to begin with colors. And here are all color trends for the coming season:

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Color Trend #1: Soft colors. It is essential to remember that in autumn and winter colors shouldn't be as bright as they are in spring and summer. But it in no way means you have to go black, grey and brown. You can choose any color you like but make sure it is more subdued rather than flashy. Or you can opt for soft hues including lavender, cantaloupe, spindrift, or honeydew.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Color Trend #2: Mood-improving bright details. If you think soft hues are dull there is another great color trend for you to choose - bright details. Too many vivid colors in one look in summer is playful and interesting, but in winter it looks too busy.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Color Trend #3: Burgundy. If you want color but believe orange, lemon and magenta are too much, try burgundy. It looks good on almost anyone and adds glamour to the appearance. This color is luxurious and there is hardly a way to spoil your look with it. Grape can be an alternative for burgundy. Burberry grape looks the best.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Color Trend #4: Midnight blue. Midnight blue is always safe no matter where you go: office, party, shopping, etc. Play with it, experiment and surprise your friends!

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Color Trend #6: Neutral colors. These colors are always fashionable and designers seem to never get tired of creating pieces in neutral hues. It's simple: neutrals can stay with you forever, they are versatile and can be easily combined with other pieces, both neutral or bright. Black is the best neutral. It's elegant and chic. No one can make a mistake by wearing black. White plays a spectacular contrast with black as with plenty of other hues. And it looks so sweet without any other colors.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Color Trend #6: Prints. Seasonal prints will play a significant role. They dilute the monotone scheme and leave a great field for experiment. The safest option is to combine printed items with monotone ones. However, if you are confident about your styling skills you might want to try to coordinate various patterns in one look -- combine leopard and plaid. Leopard and python prints have been trendy for many seasons in succession. And we are actually a bit too tired of these but designers believe they can stay with us for at least one more fashion period - Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012. And if classic isn't for you, you can be fond of statement prints - bold, vivid and unexpected. Donatella Versace used floral print in her Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collection.

Jewelry Trends 2011: Eco Living Rings

Celebrity Earrings!

There's been a lot of glitz and glamor this week for red carpet fashions, and dangle earrings are in this Spring.

At the American Museum of Natural History Museum Dance in New York City on Thursday, Milla Jovavich was enchanting in a red velvet gown and sweeping curly hair. Her dangling earrings, drop necklace, and wide diamond bracelets just added to enchantment. Jessica Alba also looked cute as a button in her orange and black Narciso Rodriguez gown with a cute little up-do showing off some killer chandelier earrings.

But once again, Scarlet Johansson blew me away at the Moet & Chandon: A Tribute to Cinema party in London. Wearing a black lace Givenchy dress and champagne satin shoes. Scarlet completes her old Hollywood style with wavy hair and sparkling circle drop earrings.

There were some other great styles at both events, but when looking for some new earrings for your Spring silver jewelry collection, think long and dangly - it worked for these fashionable ladies!

Winter 2011 Trends In Jewelry!

A Hint Of Winter....Better Get Ready

Nicolas Ghesquiere and Alber Elbaz may both have bucked the extreme platform shoe trend in favor of the sexy stiletto but in terms of the costume jewelry they sent down the runways at Balenciaga and Lanvin respectively, they occupy polar opposites of the aesthetic spectrum. Chunky cuffs or delicate bangles? Bold pendants or intricate chokers? The choice for fall/winter 2011 is a rich but stark one.

At Lanvin, Elbaz continues to pursue his experimentation with an unusual and eclectic mix of materials, a trend he introduced several seasons ago with the launch of his tulle-wrapped pearl necklaces. Elbaz is credited (correctly, I think) with having spearheaded a revival of the costume jewelry trend which had not been seen since the 40's and 50's when fashion houses such as Chanel and Dior habitually turned out exquisite costume jewelry collections to complement their apparel. For Fall/Winter 2009-10 he's opted for a bold, chunky mix of geometric shapes that have a definite industrial yet polished feel to them. In contrast, the jewelry at Balenciaga is a sinewy blend of faux stones, strass and pearls that have a vintage appeal reminiscent of 1950's costume jewelry. The delicateness of the pieces were an unexpected but appealing complement to the austerity of Ghesquiere's fashions. Whatever your preference in jewelry, these pieces are a collector's treasure. With this in mind, you would do well to get yourselves on the waiting lists now.

Old Colors Make A New Stance

Even though we are well into the first decade of the 21st century, fashion seems to continue to take its cues from the past. The past being the recent past, post-World War II. Despite the dearth of items, a multitude of color directions, and no clean vision on what length a necklace ought to be, there was plenty of new ones and direction to be found in the jewelry stands at this year, shows in Basel Switzerland and Las Vegas.

Blackened metals of every sort, from steel to sterling silver to gold. Oxidized sterling silver, black rhodium-plated gold, black (and even brown) PVD gold, black titanium, and other black or blackened metals allow larger-sized jewelry and silhouettes to remain large yet less ostentatious than high-polished looks. Necklace in 18k brown gold with citrine and brown gems.

Expect to see lots of texture from hand-hammered to etched. Any kind of texture will dominate precious and base metals.

One of the top raves for the coming seasons is a splash (and more) of black. Black onyx and pearls are hot. Rings with black pearls and pendants decorated with tiny black gems should give you that in look. Why not try some Swarovski black Pearls.

Retro Jewelry, jewelry from the 1940s, is forecasted to be big in 2009. Most retro jewelry was made with inexpensive base metal findings and glass beads. Do some research online by typing in retro jewelry in your browser.

Fall 2011 to winter 2012 will be dominated by rich and vivid saturated colors. Colors and gems like ruby, blue sapphire, and emerald, or use similar colors from Swarovski. Other strong, vivid gemstones, such as tanzanite, and tourmaline should fit right in. Warmercolors, including brown gems and pearls will continue to be popular, just combine them with vivid, saturated color or darkened precious metals.Throw in some dashes of vibrant red, teal, yellow or cosmic blue...purple and coral.

Gray was on the runways this fall, both here and abroad. Grays (from silvery lame looks to deep charcoal) will be around throughout fall and into spring 2009. Gray will be added as a fashion basic like black and white as a fashion basic. Depending upon the hue, gray easily coordinates with any color and metal.

Trends In Pearls!

One of today's hottest is to wear multiple strands of pearls. To take your look from demure to dramatic, layer on the pearls! This sassy secret has worked wonders since the beginning of time. Imagine a cascade of pearl strands swinging over your simple black sheath or sweater set.

Men's Jewelry Gets New Outlook!

Jewelry design experts say Men's Jewelry is not just a passing fad. In fact, designers and retailers are devoting more time, attention, and store space to Men's Jewelry than ever before!

Men today are showing a desire to want to show their identity to the world, and they're at ease and confident enough to complement a watch with a bracelet, necklace, or ring. Gothic Jewelry: Dark, Sexy and Mysterious

Gothic jewelry, or darkside jewelry, as opposed to 'light,' evokes images of the macabre and the preternatural: vampires, the dead and undead, spirits, black magic and the black arts. As such, artisans craft items that would appeal to a person's dark or gothic side. There is an abundance of e-commerce websites and specialty stores whose emphasis is on jewelry and the darkside. In these places, a person will be able to find gothic jewelry such as pentacle pendants, gothic cross necklaces, spider-and-web piercings, and more.

Also known as pagan jewelry, gothic body ornaments are made from many types of materials, but they are typically available in gold, sterling silver and pewter. They may come plain or be encrusted with jewels. If gazing into the sparkling purple depths of an Amethyst suffuses you with a sense of powerful well being, this is only to be expected. Amethyst is also symbolic of spirituality and piety. It has been used to ornament churches and crosses used in religious ceremony, and worn in rings and on rosaries by bishops and priests.

Once considered more valuable than diamonds, Amethyst is a member of the quartz family, occurring naturally as crystals within rocks. Deposits of this gemstone are found in Brazil, Canada, Australia, India, Madagascar, Namibia, Russia, Sri Lanka; and in the United States.

The gift of Amethyst is symbolic of protection and the power to overcome difficulty. It is said to strengthen the bond in a love relationship, so it is an ideal anniversary or engagement gem.
