Free Collage & Mixed Media Art Supplies
Ranked #10,807 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #147,805 overall
Would you like free collage, mixed media, fiber and paper crafting art supplies? They are as close as your own kitchen! (or livingroom, or laundry room, basement or attic!)
I don't have a lot of excess cash lying around to buy all the latest and greatest art supplies, but that isn't going to stop me from making some of my favorite creations, such as mixed media art, collage, fiber and paper art, altered books, journals and ATC's! I knew there just had to be common, everyday items that most people throw out that could, with a little ingenuity, be used in art work and no one would be the wiser. Lots of items, everyday household items, can be repurposed and used as either the base of an art project or one of its components. I'm compiling a list of items and suggestions on how you can use them. If you have additional ideas, PLEASE add a comment so you can share it with others!

3 things you should know about collage art
Art can be made at your kitchen table. You don't have to have a full art studio. I don't!
Once you get the hang of seeing what would normally be considered "trash" as potential art supplies, you won't be able to stop! (not always a good thing, but I believe you can control yourself...)
You WILL be surprised what visual joy can come from your fingertips! Don't go into this thinking that you have to make art that all will love. You don't have to show it to ANYONE, so, create what you want to create, and do it for YOURSELF!

My Motto is:
"WHEN IN DOUBT, SAVE IT ANYWAYS!"
I don't know how many times I've thrown some little thing away and then chastised myself for it because I thought of a way to use it after the fact. I've now got a separate box that is specifically for those items. It's not a big box, and I go through it often, but it seems as if every time I read a new collage or altered art book, I finish it with even more ideas and suddenly something in the "crap box" is exactly what I need!

Items of interest on Amazon
Of these 5 books, Collage Unleashed by Traci Bautista is my favorite. She has a boatload of ideas for incorporating common items into art projects such as freezer paper, broken crayons and scrap fabric and ribbons. Creative Collage Techniques deserves it's own category. It's full of all kinds of different ways to use paper and fabric. The other 3 titles, Collage Lost and Found, Collage Discovery Workshop and Mixed Media Collage deserve high marks for incorporating all kinds of common materials, objects and ephemera into beautiful artwork.
