Diaper Sprayers Make Cloth Diapering Even Easier

I love cloth diapering my daughter. It is easier than I ever imagined and I never run out of diapers. There are three things I think are essential to making cloth diapers even easier to use:

* A cute wet bag for cloth diapering out of the house. (I prefer my Wahmies and Little for Now wet bags.)

* A cloth diaper pail liner. Call me silly, but I am NOT interested in scrubbing out an icky diaper pail. After 13 months I've only had to scrub the pail a handful of times, I just wash the diaper pail liner each time I do diapers.

* A cloth diaper sprayer. While my baby is still at the stage where it is easy to wash diapers without taking the poop off first (breastfed baby poop comes right out in the wash - honest!), I am so glad I have a diaper sprayer for the really messy stuff and for cleaning her diapers as she starts solids. Read on for more details about diaper sprayers and why they are on my MUST have list for cloth diapering.

Why do I want a cloth diaper sprayer?

Easy as can be, no messes for me!

Once a baby starts eating solids, thier diapers become a bit more challenging. If you are using pocket diapers or other diapers with a non-stick lining, you may not have too many diapers that need rinsing. However, if you are using prefolds or fitteds with a natural fabric, you may want to clean them a bit more before tossing them in the diaper pail. Enter, your new friend the diaper sprayer!

A diaper sprayer is a small sprayer, kinda like you have in your kitchen, only it attaches to the water intake for your toilet. It can double as a bidet sprayer, a waste basket rinser and a toilet cleaner. When you need to rinse a dirty diaper, just hold it over the toilet bowl and rinse the mess right into the toilet. Simple as can be. No dunking, no risk of losing a valuable diaper when you flush. No expensive repairs when you accidentally flush your favorite diaper.

Choosing a Diaper Sprayer

No leaks, no plumber!

There are a few things to look at when choosing a diaper sprayer:

Ease Install vs. Call a Plumber!: Most diaper sprayers are pretty straightforward to install, but the instructions that come with the sprayer make a big difference as well. The diaper sprayers shown here are made by Coolcraft (they have a copackaging deal with BumGenius and a cooperative distribution program with Happy Heiny's). They come with great instructions and are easy to install yourself.

Shut-off valve Vs. Toddler Water Fun: Good cloth diaper sprayers come with a built-in shut off valve. This handy valve helps prevent accidental leaks. It also helps slow down a curious toddler and prevents you from having to mop up after toddler water fun time.

Incidental Shower vs. Gentle Spray: Look for a diaper sprayer that has a pressure adjuster. Too much pressure and you may get as wet as the diaper. A pressure adjustment helps to make it easy to use just the amount of spray needed.

Price vs. Security: While you can choose a cheaper diaper sprayer, I prefer to use (and sell) those that are made with higher quality materials. The difference in price between a cheaper diaper sprayer and a high-quality diaper sprayer is only a few dollars. The peace of mind of knowing it is not going to leak is worth the extra money to me. I am saving hundreds of dollars by cloth diapering, I can afford to spend an extra $10 or so to get a diaper sprayer that could save me thousands of dollars. If you choose a cheaper sprayer, you may find yourself with much bigger problems. A leaky diaper sprayer could flood your house. Imagine coming home from vacation to find that the diaper sprayer leaked for days and soaked through the ceiling into the room below!

Where can I get a quality diaper sprayer? My store, Little for Now is one place to buy quality cloth diaper sprayers.
