The past two weeks have been hectic for me. With college final exams, essays, and other assignments due just around the corner, I've been quite a busy bee! Lack of sleep, lack of eating, and most importantly (at least in the context of this blog), lack of Squidoo articles. I think I've said this before, but I just do NOT have the energy right now to write anything!
But I will be back! After finals are done, I'm going to have a week off to do whatever I want. Oh, happy days!
Jay
PS: I'm also going to take my Driver's License test on March 13. Wish me luck!
PPS: Oh! I just found out I won a trophy. This cool Yellow Star thing! :D

God....I JUST WANT TO PUBLISH THIS ALREADY.
So for the past week, I've been working on a lens having to do with Food Garnishing. I'm really proud of it, but I have to say it's taking much too long to get this thing done. I hope all my hard work will pay off (and maybe get lens of the day? Maybe?..).
I should have this done by tomorrow, so expect a new lens of mine to go live! It'll be my 3rd.
Jay
PS: Oh, I also uploaded a picture of myself. I hope I'm not too ugly for you guys...heh.

Woot! Hello everyone.
I just released my new lens Low Calorie Egg Breakfast Recipes for the Thinner You. I'm very proud of it and worked hard on all the recipes (even though there are only Four). For the most part it has received positive reviews, so I'm happy about that.
Oh..and..I'm also hesitant about putting my actual face on my Bio. I don't like how I look so I don't want to see my face all the time. Is this a problem? Do other Squids experience this sort of self-consciousness?
Anyway, I've yet to make a penny. But hopefully I will soon! Maybe even an Amazon Sale? We'll see.
Jay
PS: OH. I'm Also Level 10! I'm Happy =)

Do you know how irritating it is to write a lens when you're in college? It's like my school life is my WHOLE life. By the time I get home I am so drained I have no energy to get on Squidoo and start writing!
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. After weeks of hard work, I have completed my College Essay and I am SCHOOL-FREE FOR 5 DAYS. And my Professor is making us take our Mid-term online! How freaking fantastic is that?
Hopefully I'll have this lens posted by Saturday.

Hi.
So....I have a lens. I just haven't published yet.
Oh, and I apologize for my lack of enthusiasm. I just finished writing an essay for this Diary post but I accidentally DELETED EVERYTHING and now I have to start over. And I forgot almost everything I talked about. I think it was along the lines of "I love Squidoo" and "I have yet to make a mistake"
I've also learned a few things this week:
+ Squidoo loves HTML (YAY. I've been in Web Design since I was 10)
+ Squidoo lens ranking is dependent on a few factors, including Backlinks
+ I wrote a third thing I learned but BECAUSE I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED IT I forgot what it was. But it was important, I assure you.
That lens should be up soon!

- P.S. Forgot to add: I resisted posting a profile photo of myself for approximately the first 10 years I used the web. I'd rather be judged for content, not looks. But alas, the profile photo is the first thing people see, and it is one of many small, intangible factors to help draw them to a page when they arrive. You don't have to do it if you're uncomfortable with it -- I know some Squids who have artwork or avatar-cartoons of themselves -- but human psychology means that author faces help, very slightly, in getting readers to engage with and stay on a page.

- Welcome, Jay!
Looks like you're off to a good start, and have a few tools in your toolkit -- comfort with web design, writing skills, something between your ears, and hopefully a knowledge of what college age people like -- to get you going.
I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm in any way except to note that individual pages don't always pay much, although it adds up over the longterm, so don't kill yourself as you would a research paper to make THE PERFECT AND AUTHORITATIVE LENS ON X -- a lens is more like a daily column in a newspaper than a 20-page paper.
You've probably found it already, but check out Christene's Squidoo Payday Questions and Answers Lens -- http://www.squidoo.com/squidoo_payday
I did exactly what you did: I was writing lenses in graduate school to earn a little extra income for books, and as a hobby and a break from more serious academic writing. I've finally put academia on hold (not recommended) and am trying to make a full-time income on Squidoo and other online publishing endeavors. It's NOT the most efficient way to earn money. But with your skills, you should be able to. Also, Squidoo's traffic stats tab -- especially the "phrases bringing people to your lens" part -- can teach you a tremendous amount about what people search and use the web for, which is the best teacher you can have on what and how to write for a web audience. Good luck!

- Hi there! Glad you're here & I like that you're jumping right in. Don't worry about being self-conscious; you aren't the only one. It took me almost three years to make an About Me Lens and you STILL won't find my face anywhere on Squidoo. Anyhow, I hope lots of fun and you really can make money. It just takes patience. Cheers!

My first month on Squidoo!
Tuesday January 31, 2012
Oh. Hallo. Newbie Squid here =).
I've heard SO MANY great things about Squidoo (relatively high payouts, beautiful articles, Google madly in love with the website, etc.) and, after months and months of procrastination, I'm finally here to see if the rumors are true!
Now, I'm not particularly new to Article Writing. In fact, I've been in the business for about a year. I'm not exactly the best though; I've only made about $100. The sad thing is I knew I could have spent my time better on better sites (like Squidoo!). I darenot say the websites I used to write for for fear of breaking some hidden rule or whatever, but I will tell you this: They paid so damn low I could have spent my time better scavenging for Quarters in downtown Seattle. In the pouring rain.
Did I mention I was from Washington?
Nevertheless, I have high hopes for Squidoo, and I hope to make more than $100 by the end of this year. If not, I hope at the very least that the income will be residual in the exponential sense, and not linear (the more lens I write the more residual money I will make if I were to be on Hiatus for a month).
In any case, I better start writing, shouldn't I?
See you guys on the Greener side!
Jay
