The Last Straw is the third installment in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Released on January 13th, 2009 this book once again covers middle school student Greg Heffley's ups and downs in a hilarious diary format.

Along the way we get a delightful insight into the inner thoughts of a middle school boy. The last update I saw in January, 2012 listed the movie as being in post production status. This means the film has been shot and it is post production where they put all of the finishing touches on the movie. It is set to hit theaters nationwide on August 3rd, 2012!

Just under a year and one week after the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie was released in theaters, Diary of Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules brought the book with the same title to the big screen! The movie hit theaters March 25th, 2011 so be sure to check it out if you are a big Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan!

So I took my 9 year old son to Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules on it's opening weekend. We both really enjoyed the second movie in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie series. While I thought the first one was a little better, my son couldn't decide. He was pretty impressed that the Rodrick Rules movie stayed very true to the storyline in the actual book. According to him Rodrick Rules follows the book much more closely than the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie did.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules highlights the relationship of Greg Heffley and his older brother Rodrick. It is very much the typical relationship between an older brother and his younger "geeky" sibling. Greg's mom decides the two brothers need to spend more time together to get to know one another better. After all she points out, one day they will be uncle Greg and uncle Rodrick to each others' kids!

Greg's mom develops a reward system to encourage the two brothers to spend more time together. She decides to call it "mom bucks" and gives the two brothers one "mom buck" that can be traded for a real dollar for each hour they spend together without fighting.

I don't want to give away too much for those who haven't seen the movie so let's just say the movie highlights the ups and downs of the relationship between Greg and Rodrick. There is a bunch of fighting, the two boys are left home alone for a weekend and a lot of hilarity results!

The movie also focuses on Greg's puppy love over the new cute blonde girl in school named Holly. Will Greg actually hit it off with Holly? Will she finally learn he isn't Fregley? Will Greg and Rodrick learn to get along or end up hating each other even worse? You'll have to see the movie to find out!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules contains just the right amount of "crude" boy humor. You know...the gross stuff younger males find so funny. Farts, burps, and poop! It would be so easy for a movie like Rodrick Rules to go too far down the crude humor road, but it contains just the right amount. It's just enough to keep the kids laughing without offending anyone.

All in all I my son and I thought Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules was a great movie. Althoufgh I thought the first one was a little better, my son was equally pleased with both. We give it 4 out of 5 stars and two NON-WIMPY thumbs up!

We both shared some great laughs and it left him eager to read the books yet again.

On March 19th, 2010 the first book from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series was brought to life on the big screen. This hilarious film adaptation of the Wimpy Kid story puts a fun Hollywood spin on things while remaining surprisingly true to the book on which it is based.

The film stars Zachary Gordon as Greg Heffley and features Robert Capron as Rowley Jefferson. In the film Greg focuses on attaining one of the most highly coveted prizes of all of middle school: popularity. While on his quest the film acts out nearly all of the best parts of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book.

It has been nearly a year since my son and I went to see this film and we STILL talk about it and quote lines from it. I had to buy him the DVD which he's watched several times. Like the books, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie is a dead accurate depiction of what real life is like for today's youth. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend picking up the DVD or Blu-ray for that Wimpy Kid fan in your life. The entire family will love this film!

The sequel to the first movie, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, is set to be released on the big screen in March of 2011. My son and I can't wait!
