But just in case you're not, and you haven't a clue what I'm asking, read on to find out all about the two actors who played Darrin Stephens on the beloved 1960s sitcom Bewitched!
The Controversial Recast
In 1969, the American prime time sitcom Bewitched became the first top-rated show to recast a major character. In Bewitched, Samantha (a witch) is married to Darrin (a mortal). He has definite "issues" with her magical abilities, and every week her magic wrecks havoc in his mortal world.Samantha was played by Elizabeth Montgomery, and the original Darrin was played by Dick York. When York developed back problems that began to be disruptive to filming, Dick was given the option to quit and he agreed. The producers found someone with an uncannily similar appearance, Dick Sargent.
The acting styles of the two Dicks, however, were quite different, and most people have a definite opinion on which actor's portrayal of Darrin they prefer.

Dick York was funny, and full of expression! His eyes light up and he has so much more expression. He was believable and hilarious to watch with Endora. It is so sad that he suffered so much, he was a very good actor (in other films too such as Inherit the Wind, or Twilight Zone) and he helped make Bewitched enjoyable.

To me, the original always had a better on-screen chemistry with Elizabeth Montgomery. And I also remember his Darrin being a lot more animated when he got riled up. (Which was often.)

I really had no preference between the two, but had a crush on Elizabeth Montgomery in my earlier years! Of course I'm almost afraid to admit I'm old enough to have known what you were talking about! :-)
