Great lens on the die-cut machines available! I've added yours to my Featured Lens at my Scrapbooking Retreats for Scrapbook Addicts site: http://www.squidoo.com/scrappinretreats I AM curious, though, why the CRICUT isn't listed? It's by far the most popular one among scrappers at my retreats . . . thanks again! Great lens . . .

Great lens. I am trying to decide between all the diecutting machines out there. I would LOVE the Cricut but it's a bit pricey so have been looking into others. Thanks for an informative lens

Did you know that there's a topic just for Scrapbooking now? It's under Art and Design. It would be great to have this there.

Great lens, very informative. What about the Xyron Creatopia? With the available kits, it can function as a laminator, sticker maker, trimmer, embosser, and die cut machine.

I am an owner of a craft robo and love it. I went to graphtec (Apopkek, FL) in person and picked mine up as we were near there on vacation. I have met both the owners and their son (the owners were on a cutting cruise I took. Their company was the "sponser" for the cruise.

Having said that, the craftrobo is the lower end of the price spectrum of their products. I am not entirely sure if they still continue to make the CR or not, but they do make the products for it still.

Now, they have another machine called the klickNkut aka kNk. Those range from around 12 or 13 inches wide (compared to 8 inches for the CR) up to around 24 inches wide. That 24 inch one is a serious machine for serious die cutting.

With the craft robo and the kNk, you do not buy cartridges. Instead, you take a photo you've snapped yourself (don't break copyright laws (: ), and you trace the design in the photo..i.e. you take a close up of say, a rose in full bloom. You would trace the rose, save it as a .gsd file, then you cut it out using a repositional sticky sheet (like the ones for the cricut for example). You put your material you want to cut onto the sheet, and feed it into the CR. Then using the robomaster.exe software, you tell it to cut it. The machine is actually a plotter/vectorizer.

The drawback to the robomaster.exe software is, if you want the design cut out on the right side (your right) of the paper, you have to postion it on the screen so that it is on the left side...if you want it at the top of the paper, you position it at the bottom.

However, there is an excellent software package for the kNk that also works for the CR. It is Studio G.E. With that, it is much easier to trace the pattern, and you can even do joined letters. It has been awhile since I've used my machine, because the kNk software comes with a dongle (only bad downside). The dongle looks like a little thumb drive and you put it into the usb port. If it is not in there, then the software won't work. I managed to break my dongle, and have recently replaced it. However the computer it was on died, and have not loaded it onto my laptop yet...but am going to soon LOL.

Anyway, I've not bought a die since I've had this machine. For those of you who design 3D sheets, yes, you can use it to cut those sheets out...however, I've not been able to wrap my old pea brain around that concept...yet.

There is an excellent support group for the CR and kNk, as well as any other support group. The lady who owns it is also a dealer for kNk as well as a teacher online for using the machines. I've met her twice now and she is very nice and very, very helpful. She does not kick anyone out of her group for expressing sentiments about various products, either, like some have done. I won't advertise the name of the group on here until I know it is allowed though.

Anyway, again, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my CR and would kill to have the kNk...I think about a 13 inch..15 at most. I don't scrapbook, but do make my own greeting cards. So don't need anything 24 inches wide even if I had the room for it. Remember..no more expensive cartridges to buy...and the support groups on Yahoo do share files that they have made themselves...again no copyright infringements, please.

I forgot to mention, the craftrobo and the klickNkut do have to be hooked up to your computer, in order to use it.
