Hypothyroidism - Is There Any Hope Of Losing Weight?

Anyone knows, that has hypothyroidism, that weight gain is a huge problem. It's an ongoing battle that seems to have no good ending. It's not enough that we have to deal with being tired and weak all of the time and not getting proper sleep, but now we also have to struggle with weight gain. It just doesn't seem fair!

Trying to lose weight with hypothyroidism is definitely one of the most frustrating symptoms to deal with. You already feel bad enough with all the other symptoms and now you have to deal with feeling like you look bad too. No one enjoys being overweight, we would all like to be our ideal weight. That doesn't mean looking like a cover girl model, we just don't want to look like the Goodyear blimp! I'm not saying that's what you look like, but I am saying that's what I felt like. It is certainly not a good feeling.

Why Is It so Hard To Lose Weight with Hypothyroidism?

Just as our luck would have it we have the health problem or disorder, that causes us to gain weight. Why does this happen to us? What is going wrong within our bodies to cause this?

Even though the thyroid gland is one of the smallest glands in our body, it is one of the most powerful. This gland is responsible for making certain our metabolism is working correctly. Our metabolism is where our energy comes from, what makes our body burn calories, and without it working correctly we gain weight and feel sluggish. Your metabolism is what decides how fast your body burns calories. It controls how fast we gain weight and it controls how easy or hard it is to lose weight.

Our age also plays a role in how quickly I metabolism burns calories. The sad truth is that the older we get the slower our metabolism works. Usually when people reach their 30s they start to see a change been there weight even though it may be slight. And with each decade that passes you see even more slowing down. Weight just naturally becomes an issue for most people. Men usually have better luck than women, because their bodies burn more calories while they rest. Talk about unfair!

Metabolism and Hypothyroidism Weight Loss

Does Mental Stress Affect Your Metabolism?

Your mind and emotions have direct effects on your overall health. So therefore, your metabolism is also affected by your stress levels. If you are one to go around worrying about every little thing, whether you realize it or not you are affecting your metabolism and your thyroid. Everyone suffers from stress, some are just better at hiding it than others. You need to eliminate as much stress from your life as possible. I know that is not an easy task, but it is a major key to being healthier. While it is impossible to eliminate every stress from your life, it is possible to get it under a lot better control.

There are small things that you can do to help eliminate your daily stress. Such as the little GREEN BEAN
you see in the picture. While this looks like a little toy it is
actually a stress reliever. It gives you something to do with your hands
while taking your mind off your worries. And believe it or not, you
will actually be burning a few calories as you play with it. So you're
actually working on two things at one time, your weight and your stress.

It Really Works and How Cute!

Here is another Stress Reliever that is also used for isometric exercises and hand strengthening. This works by you squeezing it with your hands also. Once again this works great for relieving tension while burning calories and strengthening your hands.

Here is one that I thought was really unique. It is called My Beating Heart and it it is a pillow. It is designed to help you relax and meditate. When turned on this mimics the sound of a real heart beating and the heartbeat soothes and calms you. It is getting great reviews from users. It is great for sleeping with, you just hug it and the beating heart will lull you to sleep.

The wonderful thing about these is they can all be used just about anywhere, even while you're at work where stress levels are likely to be higher. Don't forget the bonus, using these will also burn calories.
This one has some great reviews I had to have it, mine is on its way now. I can't wait to try it.

Hypothyroidism Diet Foods

What Foods Should You Be Eating for Your Thyroid?

Does it really matter what you eat with thyroid problems? It most certainly does matter. Hypothyroidism is a serious health problem in you should do everything you can do to help yourself. The better you treat your body the better it will treat you. So you should be eating a healthy diet. Each organ in your body needs certain vitamins and nutrients to be is healthiest. Your thyroid is the same way.

Eating foods rich in iodine is necessary when you have hypothyroidism. Your thyroid needs iodine to function, research has proved this. Unfortunately most people do not get enough iodine in their daily diets and the reason for this is because so many people have cut back their intake of salt. Through studying it is believed that the majority of people are iodine deficient which could explain so many thyroid problems.

Fish is a good source of iodine, so is salmon. Seaweed is also rich in iodine. I know some people may think eating seaweed may sound weird, but I actually tried it recently and it's quite good. Everyone should try it at least once.

Junk food is a big no-no! Drinking carbonated drinks is also something that should be stopped. You should be sure to drink plenty of water each day, at least 8 to 10 glasses. Also make sure it is a good quality of water, it is always a good idea to have a water filter for your drinking water.
