Diet for Overweight Children - Foods to Avoid
Experts advise that parents avoid telling their children not to eat or how much they should or shouldn't be eating. However, it IS a good idea to sit down with your kids and talk to them about the foods that are not good for them... making suggestions in regard to the types of foods that are beneficial.An example of foods to avoid are:
- fast food
- sugar sweetened beverages
- canned soups (very high in sodium)
- packaged lunch meats
- chocolate and other sweets

50 Ways to Eat Healthier!
Diet for Overweight Children - Healthier Chicken Nuggets
Kids love chicken nuggets. Unfortunately, ready-made nuggets are typically very unhealthy. The following recipe is a wonderful alternative, to the fast food variety, that your children will more than appreciate.Prepare a double batch and freeze half, for a convenient second meal.
- 1-3/4 cups herb stuffing mix (right out of box)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 T. margarine (melted)
- 1/4 cup buttermilk (low fat)
- 1/4 t. pepper
- 2 boneless chicken breasts (skinless)
Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees F.
Transfer stuffing mix to large ziploc bag. Seal. Crush with rolling pin. Add Parmesan cheese and shake to combine.
Combine melted margarine, buttermilk and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
Rinse chicken breasts. Pat dry. Cut each into 6-8 equal pieces.
Dip each chicken nugget into buttermilk. Shake (3 at a time) in stuffing mixture.
Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 4 minutes. Remove from oven to turn each nugget.
Return to oven and bake 4-6 additional minutes, until golden brown. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
