Who is Dietrich Bonhoeffer?

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and martyr who was born in 1906. He was also a participant in the German resistance movement against Nazism and a founding member of the Confessing Church. He was involved in plans to assassinate Hitler and was arrested and executed in 1945, 23 days before the Nazis surrendered. He has many books containing his sermons, lessons and thoughts.

I don't know a ton about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, but we have a few of his books and I plan to read more about him and update this page as I learn more.

Our Dietrich

In high school, my husband took German as his foreign language. In his class, he learned about Dietrich Bonhoeffer and liked what he heard. He later used part of his name as his e-mail address. He also really liked the name and wanted to name our first son Dietrich. I love unusual names, so this sounded good to me. This is a picture of our Dietrich.

I seen a video biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, that we borrowed from the library. It was 12 years ago!
