Diets - Some people shrink away when they only hear this word. Others start to tell horro stories about all sort of diets that they have tried without success....

Well, if you want to diet in the sense of losing weight, then you need to go about it systematically and not just hope for the best and abandon the diet after two weeks. It does take time to get fat, and the same applies to shedding this fat again: You need to be patient and presistent.

How to make sure your diet works:

You should never expect too much. Promises like 8 pounds off in three days are - excuse my language - bullshit!

You've taken a long time adding all these fat cells to your body. To empty them will take an equally long time. Starving will not help, because your body has an emergency program that reduces the use of calories drastically the moment it seems to have to prepare for a famine....

So just take it easy and be happy if you lose a pound or two every week. There are 52 weeks in a year, if you keep a slight redection in food intake, you'll have lost between 50 and 100 pounds after a year!

    Great Lens, Lots of valuable info. As mentioned here, only patience and continuation will help losing weight consistently and keep it off for a long time

    I agree, patience is a must when dieting, and exercise will only help you get results faster. And great idea on the audiobooks! I hadn't thought of them for health books, only fiction. I found this one on Amazon too: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/193331009X , called " Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy". I'm gonna give it a shot! Thanks again for your great lens!
