As a personal trainer, my clients are always asking about diets that work fast. Many of them have tried diet programs that promote relatively slow weight loss. For many of them. they can never stick to a diet long enough to see results.

Earlier this year, at the request of my clients who had made new year's resolutions, I began to research diets that work fast.Most of the diets I researched were questionable in regard to safety and had a poor track record of helping individuals maintain their weight loss.

However, I did find 2 programs that helped my clients lose weight safely, while keeping them motivated with good news at the scale!

Can Diets That Work Fast Be Healthy? 

Being Overweight Is Definitely NOT Healthy!

The key to the safety of most diet programs involves consulting with a physician before starting the regimen.

They can evaluate your current health, and determine if the diet is appropriate for your condition.

If you are given the "green light" to begin, you may be pleasantly surprised at how good you feel and the immediate health benefits you achieve.

Diets that work fast, when followed properly, can lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol.

Successful diets are NEVER starvation diets. Starvation is starvation, and it is NOT a diet, it is a death sentence!

During starvation, the body breaks down it's own lean muscle tissue for protein. It is a case of self "cannibalism". DON"T do it!

Diets That Work Fast- But How Fast? 

Here Are The Basics Of Diets That Work Fast

Many years ago, I worked as a counselor in a medically supervised weight loss clinic. The clinic advertised that individuals involved with the program could lose from 1/2lb-1lb a day!

Some people actually did.

However, it is important to understand the mechanisms involved with weight loss, particularly, diets that work fast. During the first 48 hours or so, the body will deplete glycogen that is stored in the muscles and the liver.

Glycogen is a fancy word for sugar, and the body will trun to glycogen for energy when dietary calories are restricted.

After 48hrs-72hrs, the body releases a hormone that will begin mobilizing stored body fat for energy. At this point, dieters are beginning to experience some fat loss.

Most diets that work fast, tend to drastically cut carboydrate intake. Carbohydrates act as a "dam" for body fluids.

Consequently, when carbohydrates are drastically reduced, much early weight loss is water weight. I have seen very obese dieters lose 15+ lbs in their first week of a carbohydrate restricted diet.

Much of that early weight loss is water weight.

A couple of other interesting things to note about fast weight loss.
* Men, generally speaking, lose weight faster than women.
* Obese dieters lose weight faster than dieters with less weight to lose.

These generalities are usually true, but not always with diets that work fast.
