Sacred Heart Diet... Thinking of Trying it? What it is, and if the Sacred Heart Diet is what you're looking for.

Looking to lose a lot of weight quickly? The Sacred Heart Memorial Diet (very similar to the cabbage soup diet, which is wildly popular right now) is a one week diet to help people do just that.

It supposedly was created by the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital to help obese patients to lose weight when they are about to undergo heart surgery. (In truth this isn't true, it's origins are unknown, and not affiliated with any medical institution).

The Sacred Heart diet itself is fairly easy... there's a vegetable soup you make, and you're allowed to eat as much of as you want. In addition to the soup, each day there's a different set of foods you're allowed to eat. (fruit one day, meat another, veggies another, etc.)

The real question of course, is whether or not the Sacred Heart Diet will work, and whether or not it's worth your effort. So! You've come to the right place... I went ahead and tried it for a week, and while it did help me lose some weight... it might not be exactly what you're looking for.

Sacred Heart Diet Pros:

Why the Sacred Heart Diet will do you good

#1. The actual food for the diet is all natural, and not bought through some ridiculous mail order menu system or something... so it's cheap and healthy. The soup is made from scratch, lots of fresh raw veggies and fruits, and some meat on two of the days to round things out. Just staying away from processed foods for a week like the Sacred Heart Diet recommends is always a good idea.

#2 no supplements or herbal concoctions... all natural, means all cheap stuff you can buy in the grocery store.

#3 You'll still have enough energy on the diet to exercise.

#4 you actually will lose 5 to 10 pounds of weight in the week, and one week is short enough that most people should be able to stick to it with a bit of willpower.

Sacred Heart Diet Cons

Why The Sacred Heart Diet probably isn't what you really need

#1 Anytime you're losing more than at most 4 pounds in a week (and for anyone not obese, that number's more like 2), it's not going to be fat. Losing water isn't helpful, since your body is way better off when it's got a lot of fluids, and losing muscle is even less helpful because it lowers your metabolism and makes it likely you'll gain all the weight back and then some.

#2 the strict setup is a little strange, and feels more like it's made to seem complicated and therefore useful, instead of actually being set up in a way that will help you lose weight faster.

So is the Sacred Heart Diet for you?

And if not... then what should you really try?

It won't do any harm... but what you really need to ask yourself... what are your weight loss goals? Are you looking for permanent weight loss? Are you looking to lose the weight and keep it off? Do you have high cholesterol and need to improve your heart's health?

Do you want a permanent change in how you look and feel instead of just a few days a week from now?

To be honest, you're a lot better off making small changes and sticking to them permanently. It's not that hard if you pick one thing to focus on each week! And the results can be surprisingly fast depending on what you pick to change.

So if The Sacred Heart Diet isn't really good for any real change..

Looking for some guidance?

If you're looking to lose weight, there's a lot of good information that'll make the difference, though the real trick is making /permanent/ changes, so it's less about drastic, and more about finding a healthier lifestyle.

If you're looking for a great step by step way to make your own diet though, you should check out Strip That Fat. It's the most affordable, useful system I've come across, since it's built to help you find a way to lose weight and still enjoy life and not have to try to hard... which means custom building the your own system instead of following some pre-fab diet that will only work for some. So if you've got a few spare pesos, it's well worth it to check this out.

Check out Strip That Fat.

So, that's it for this week's fad diet. Maybe next week I'll try the master cleanse... though on second thought, maybe that's a terrible idea. Heh.

Anyway, Good luck my friends! And remember, you're way better off finding a permanent diet that's healthy and delicious and relatively easy than trying to lose a bunch all at once with a tough diet. It's not as fast or exciting, but a healthy lifestyle seems to really be the best thing.

So that's my story... what about yours?

Going to try the diet? Good luck:)! Come back with your experiences, I'd love to hear how it goes. Or hey, just say hello, either way's fine.

Well, I have been on the diet for three weeks, though I have taken 2-3 days in between. My mantra: "I can do ANYTHING for 7 days". So far, I have lost 42 pounds. I have been drinking diet soda and coffee. I plan to do this a couple of more rotations before starting exercise. Being that I have so much weight to lose, I didn't want to damage my joints. I was already retaining way too much fluid, so I am not upset by the loss. My ankles and legs haven't been swollen since week one. Sure makes getting around a lot easier! The veggies, I sautee using butter flavored Pam and adding just enough beef or chicken broth (low sodium, of course) to steam through. I also use chicken broth in the brown rice. As for the soup, I do not use the LIpton. I use frozen tomatoes from our garden last year, beef broth, one stalk of celery, okra & italian green beans. I eat lots of tomatoes, as I love them anyway. I feel so much better, you can't imagine!! This has been a great thing for me, personally.
