Dog Collars : The Different Kinds For Your Pets Needs
Ranked #5,105 in Pets & Animals, #128,333 overall
What kind should you choose?
Pet owners today can choose from a variety of available designs and styles of dog collars, but it sometimes gets confusing for the pet owner to identify what kind of collar to use for their pet dogs.
So if you own a dog and you are planning to buy him a dog collar, you need to be able to identify the different kinds of collars and where and how you can use each one, it will also help to identify the right type of dog collar depending on the dog's size, breed as well as weight.
The first kind of collar is the Dog Show collar and is used, as the name suggests, in dog shows; this dog collar is made from metal, plastic or metal covered with plastic.
These collars often have a loop that is slipped over the dog's head and tightens around the neck when the leash is pulled, which makes it perfect to use for dog shows.
Another type is the Martingale collar, which is also known as the limited slip option collar; this is because it is specially designed to prevent your dog from slipping out of the collar that he is wearing, however, you need to watch out how you tie your dog when using this collar since it also tightens a little bit around the neck every time the leash is pulled.
For bigger or more stubborn dogs that keep on tugging and pulling at their leash, metal prong collars are effective tools to control and discipline the dog, since the dog is given a small pinch every time the leash is pulled to let the dog know that they need to behave.

Two More Types of Collars
There are also the head collars that resemble muzzles; these collars cover the dog's nose completely with a hole at the end where the dog can breathe easily through, this collar is used for dogs that are being taught to stop from pulling on their leash or to heel. For people who leave their dogs at home or in the yard for long periods of time, the Breakaway collar is a safe collar to use because it breaks apart from your dog's neck should it get stuck on something and your dog pulls at it; however, the collar will not break apart if it is attached to a leash so you need not worry about having your dog run away when you take him out for a walk. The Usual Collar
Another type of dog collar is the Daily collar commonly used among pet dogs. These collars are made from either leather, plastic or cloth and is held together using a metal clasp, with an identification tag so your dog can be returned to you should it run away.
