Digg How-to Description

Digg.com is a very exciting place. There are new articles submitted every 15 seconds.

Digg provides a wide array of opportunities for it's users and you will soon learn what I mean.

Welcome to the complete Digg dot com how to. I am your host sammy64, watch and be amazed.

What is Digg.com?

Let's Begin

Digg LogoWe will start with the basics. Digg is a social media website that allows its users to submit stories that they find interesting, and others to "digg" their story if they like it. If a particular story gets a high amount of digg's it does well.

If you really don't know what Digg is then I recommend that you check out their About Us page. I would also recommend checking out their tour.

Digg & You

What Digg can do for you

Digg is a huge site that benefit an abundance of people. Essentially it can do a lot of things for you.

Here's a list of the things that I know Digg can do for you.
  • Get Info - For an average person digg can provide a lot of usefull info about different subjects. Some will even make you wonder what the people that wrote it were thinking.
  • Stay Informed with Current Events - When I first joined digg I quickly learned that some current events come up on digg way before they are shown on TV media.
  • Drive Traffic to Your Web Pages - I think this is a big reason why many people join digg. Digg brings a good amount of traffic to almost every web page submitted.
  • Adding Content to your Web Pages - Digg has a lot of very unique articles on a variety of topics. If you happen to find an article related to the niche of one of your web pages then you can incorporate some of the info you learned.

Start Digging

Give away Diggs, They're Free!

After you sign up and invited your friends, you should start digging. Check out the main page first. Digg it up. It is great to have a good start.

After you get the hang of it start getting into the social part of digg. Start by updating your bio page and getting an avatar. If you have an image you are that much more likely to be noticed.

I personally will take you more seriously if you have an avatar instead of that black default image. Plus it gives some style. You should consider putting a picture of yourself as you avatar.

What is an Avatar - Well on digg and on many other sites when they refer to an avatar, they mean your logo or personal image.

Incorporate yourself as much as possible. Add your other pages like your myspace or squidoo links. Even you IM address if you want.

The Only Way to Get on the Front Page

its well worth it

Okay, this is going to be hard for me to say. I have been around the block a couple times on digg and I found the only way to get on the front page.

You need friends.

Bamb, that is the great answer to the question of how to get on the front page of Digg. You need to have friends. The Quantity of friends you have is always good but the quality also counts.

If you want your submitted article to get noticed you need to give it as much PR as possible.

The first place people see it will be obvious; it will be seen in upcoming. Then your friends will see it on your profile as friend activity.

Then if they digg it, it will be seen by their friends and then they will digg it. Then the chain goes on.

That my friend is the only way your submitted article will find its face on the front page of Digg.

Start digging in the upcomming

Starting to digg in the upcomming section is always a good thing to do. This is for two reasons. One: There could be some great article that you might be missing. Two: It will help you get some friends.

When you submit a story/picture/video it might be smart to add the people that dugg your story to your friends list. The reason is this: If they dugg the article that you just submitted their might be a good chance that they will like the other articles that you submitted as well.

A Little More Help for Getting Dugg

When the most people will be on digg.com

Check out this chart:

Digg Users

It is a pie chart showing where the diggers are coming from. From this pie chart we can tell that Digg has more American Users then anything else.

More people go on the internet from 6to 9PM.

From these two sets of time, we can say that if you lived in a place that went by CST it would be smart to submit an article around 7PM-8PM so that it will be 6-7 in the west and 8-9 in the east. This way you will get more attention to your article even if you don't have many friends (on digg).

Hit me up on Digg

I'll be your friend if you're cool.

Hey, if you didn't know my account on digg is Sammy64. If you have just started or are a seasoned veteran, I will be happy to be your friend on digg.

But, just so I don't seem like I am giving away my friendship to just anyone here is a list of stuff you need to have.

Don't worry it's not to hard...
  • An account...
  • Don't digg junk - Its just not cool.
  • Must have an avatar - Not to hard, right?
  • Should have a good record of digging stories. Stay active!
  • Should have a few comments in their history - I like friends who like to talk.

The Whole Day Digger - My Secret Revealed!

Oo!!!

The Whole Day digger is something that I become when I have some extra time to my self (or a lot of time). What I do is just Digg, comment, and add friends. With this method, you will quickly develop your popularity on the site.

What you do is go onto a topic that you are interested in. Then go to upcoming and Digg the articles that appeal to you most. Then if you want, comment on the article. If you like it a lot, then add the person who submitted it as a friend.

You do this for an hour, two hours, three hours, then you will get loads of friends. Period.

Then afterwards, you will start to get fans. All you have to do is stay active. Not for hours like you started, but for a few minutes a day. The fans will come to you by finding you on their friends, friends list. Then you can add those fans as your friends.
