As Amy say's "The ONLY thing that does matter right now... is your desire to take your photos from a "family barbeque snap shot shooter" to a professional or semi professional photographer."

Steady As She Goes!

How'd we get from digital photography to sailing? We didn't, but in digital photography that same principle applys...."Steady as she goes!"

Digital cameras being the artistic type are very sensitive. Seriously, I'm not kidding they are sensitive... to hand movement that is!

Sometimes your blurred photo's are simply from a unsteady hand. If your one of those that your a little shakey... just a thought maybe try less caffine?

Ok thats hard for some so this is much easier. Find something to steady you... like in a nature shot use a fence post if one is handy or a tree something to lean on. If you have your car with you use it. The roof, the hood / trunk lid anything that you can put your hand on and make the camera steady.

If you really want professional looking photo's then dont hold the camera at all... use a tripod. Everybody knows that the camera is the most important tool for a photographer. But not everybody knows that the tripod comes in at a close second.

Lighting, How to Use Light in Photos

Lighting is the most critical element in photography. Whether it be natural or artificial, lighting is the difference between a good picture and a work of art. Can't stress enough the importance of good lighting, could do a whole lens just on lighting. But I will just keep it simple with this quick article outlining some simple lighting steps and some videos from professional photographer Anthony Maddaloni.

How to Use Light in Photos
By eHow Arts & Entertainment Editor

Photography is an art form that can be executed by almost anyone with a camera. However, good photography requires an impeccable eye and a sense of light. Capturing light in a photograph is a matter of both knowledge and intuition. Follow some steps to use light in photos to create a beautiful picture every time.

Step 1

Begin by looking at a few of your favorite photographs and notice how light is used in those pictures. Whether it be family photos or beautiful nature photography, light is an essential element to be grasped by amateur and professional photographers alike. Pay special attention to the way the light falls on the main subject, and if it looks like natural light or artificial light.

Step 2

Take a look at your photo subject and determine whether it will be necessary to use a flash. Flash is often needed indoors, but can be used outside as well if sufficient lighting isn't available. Look for a spotlight or create one with light in the room to illuminate the main subject of the photograph.

Step 3

Pay special attention to the type of light in the room, whether it is fluorescent, incandescent, natural, white or partial lighting. Manipulate the light in the room so that it falls favorably upon the subject. If you are outside, find a spot where the subject is best illuminated by the natural light available.

Step 4

Set up the picture to create contrast by putting a darker figure in front of a light one or vice versa. This composition will create more drama throughout the photograph and make it more interesting to the eye. Light the picture a bit closer to the subject if there is only one subject to illuminate the center of the picture. However, if the background is significant in the photograph, use the backlighting to emphasize the background.

Step 5

Maximize shadows for a dramatic effect, or minimize the shadows for a sense of brilliancy in a photograph. Experiment with the various modes on the camera, especially for digital cameras, since it can have a profound effect on how the photo turns out.

"Ok role the video".... always wanted to say that.

Anthony Maddaloni is a professional photographer from Austin,Texas. In these video's he briefly describes the importance of lighting and different types of lighting he likes to use.
