Digital SLR Cameras

SLR Stands for Single Lens Reflex.

SLR Cameras are mechanical cameras allowing the users to fully control the shutter speed and aperture.

For example a longer shutter speed can be used to create images like the image of trailing tail lights included here.

When using an SLR camera in this way it is advisable to have a tripod.

As the SLR camera keeps the shutter open for longer when taking photographs like this one, it is important to keep the camera absolutely still, otherwise the image will blurr.

It is also necessary to alter the aperture setting to balance the light level, otherwise the image will be over exposed.

Digital SLR cameras allow you to interchange lenses, and give you full control over shutter speed, apeture etc.

SLR cameras have been the professionals choice of camera for many years.

Until recently Digital SLR Camers have been prohibitively expensive, however, over the last year the price of entry level digital slr cameras has reduced dramatically making them affordable for the amateur enthusiast, or casual user.

Digital SLR Cameras work the same way as a conventional SLR camera.

The only difference between a digital slr camera and a normal slr camera is the replacement of 35mm film with a digital sensor.

With an SLR Camera, the view finder looks through the lens, i.e. it is not a separate view finder. Thus you see exactly the picture you are about to take.

Because of this most entry level digital SLR cameras do not allow you to take pictures using the LCD display, i.e. you usually need to use the optical view finder.

Most Digital SLR cameras will auto focus using a motor driven lens, making taking pictures very easy.

It is possible to disable auto focus on a digital slr camera if special effects are to be applied.
