Digital Photography Tips

Everyone would like to be able to take great pictures to capture important moments in their lives. However, a lot of people just don't know what to do in order to improve the quality of their photos. There are a lot of different factors that can affect the quality of your pictures. Using various digital photography techniques you can learn how to minimize issues that might otherwise adversely affect the quality of your digital photos.

One thing you should be aware of as you try to improve your digital photography technique is the amount and type of light that is present. If sunlight is too bright it can wash out your photos. Sunrise and sunset tend to be better times for taking photos than mid afternoon. Of course if it is a bit too dark you can use the flash to add some light, but make sure that you are within the effective range (about 10 feet), and try to have the people in the photograph not look directly at the camera (since this makes red eye more likely).

Another thing that you should be careful of is the composition of your photograph. It can take some practice to get better at composing a picture. Keep in mind that sometimes it is better to have the subject of the photo uncentered. Many people use the rule of thirds to achieve this. It is also nice if you have something in the photo to frame your subject or draw attention toward them, but make sure that you keep the background uncluttered. You also want to watch out for things in the background that would be distracting, such as items that would appear to be growing out of a subjects head (i.e., a tree or sign right behind your subject).

Of course the good thing about digital photography is that it is very easy to edit your photos after you have taken them to improve on them. You can crop out distracting backgrounds to some extent, you can fix red eye, and you can try to fix photos that are too dark or two light or that didn't have the proper color balance. This will help in instances where you can't control the circumstances of taking the photo.
