Dinosaur Birthday Party for Girls: Fun Kids' Party Theme!

Setting the scene with themed dinosaur decor is important to create a fun mood for your party guests. When I am having larger kids birthday parties, I generally try to have them outside in my backyard.

If you decide on an outside party, it is important to remember to think "big" when incorporating your decorations so they will really pop. But remember, big does not have to mean expensive! For this party, I choose a few "high impact" props to create a prehistoric (and girly!) wonderland.

*Purchase large, inflatable dinosaurs!

My biggest tip for an awesome dinosaur birthday party for girls is to buy lots of inflatable dinosaurs. We grouped all of the dinosaurs by "herds" and placed them throughout the backyard. The overall cost was less than $40, and they were the biggest hit at the party. This is a must for throwing a great dinosaur birthday!

Make sure to inflate this with an air compressor the day before the party. And, yes, the will "catch air" if it is windy outside, so be careful. I "hid" the dinosaurs all over my yard and grouped them into dinosaur "herds."

Rawrrrr!! Oh, sorry. I'm sure our inflatable T-Rex didn't mean to scare you. That's just how he says hello! In fact, this bright red dinosaur loves to party and have his photo taken with party guests! Although he doesn't really roar, each T-Rex inflates to 4-feet high and has sharp-looking teeth, razor-like claws, and a big swishy tail to surprise dinosaur fans of all ages! Sold individually.

*Rent child size tables and chairs from a local party supply store.

Usually, you can rent a "child sized" table and chairs from your local party rental store, as well as table linens, for under $30. I generally pay around $8 per table and $1 per chair. If you decide to rent tablecloths, make SURE to insist on getting colors that match your theme. Usually, the party rental store will try and "sell" you on their basic white...but colors don't normally cost anymore than the standard white ones. Imagine a vibrant red or purple tablecloth on a background of bright green grass!

*Don't be afraid to just "rent a little." The party rental store will be glad for your business, no matter how large or small. To save money and avoid a delivery fee, go and pick up your items yourself the day before (or morning of) the party.

*Lots of balloons...and balloon weights!

Try to pick your balloons up early the day of the party and ask them to put in the hi-float to help the balloons stay inflated. You can also rent a helium tank from a party rental store (usually $30 for around 100 balloons) or buy a small tank from Wal-Mart ($20 for around 30 balloons...but you don't have to return the tank!).

*Banners made from rolls of white easel paper or colored rolled paper.

You can easily make a large birthday banner and personalize it with paint for just a few pennies (under $1). This just takes a little planning. I generally always make a personalized banner for each of my daughter's parties.

For my dinosaur birthday cake, I baked a yellow cake mix in my Pampered Chef round measuring bowl. Invert the cake onto a plate, and ice the "mound." Make rolled sugar cookies and use dinosaur cookie cutters to make dinosaur cookies. Ice the dinosaur cookies and place them standing up all around the cake "mound." Cute!

--Sandbox Dinosaur Dig:
If you have a sandbox, go ahead and bury little "dinosaur fossils" in the sandbox the day before the party. You can also bury "dinosaur eggs" (plastic Easter eggs or silly putty eggs), real fossils, geodes, or even parts of a balsa wood dinosaur skeleton for them to assemble. The possibilities are endless! This also makes a very fun party activity!

--Make a prehistoric sticker diorama using a volcano and jungle themed background, and add lots of dinosaur stickers.
