A few Prehistoric Bird Facts

dinosaur,bird

How do they know some dinosaurs had feathers?

The imprint of the feathers are embedded in the rock around the fossils they find because the rock was originally clay or other soft soil, then it hardened before the feathers rotted.

The difference between a Pteranadon and a Pteradactyl

For some of us dinosaur fans it drives us crazy when people call a Pteranadon, a Pteradactyl.

The difference is super simple.
Pteranadons have a long pointy crown on the top of their head. The Pteradactyl is bald.

Even though the Pteradactyl is bald and some fossils were found with feathers, the colors and amount of feathers varied between regions and times.

Because of that, the prehistoric birds are a fantastic subject for artist. They can be painted in any way you like.

Prehistoric Bird Dinosaur Toys and Models

One of my favorite old movies is Rodan. He wasn't a real life dinosaur, but he is still cool

This is Rodan my old Aurora model, some new ones have been made and also some action figures.

bird

Aurora also made this bird, called Prehistoric Giant Bird, it's possibly a Diatryma. They also made a Pteranadon. If you check eBay hard enough your can find the guy that takes these old models and redoes them to look very realistic.
