How to make Dinosaur Egg Cupcakes
These Easter Dinosaur Egg Nest Cupcakes are really easy. Many dinosaur eggs were elongated and arranged in a circle as any true dino fan will know ;-) I made the dinosaur eggs by shaping small pieces of marzipan and then placing them on the cupcake - the marzipan is sticky enough that you don't need anything else to keep it in place. I then added a dusting of cocoa powder dirt.
I used mini Silicone cupcake cases for these nests, but you can scale them up to fullsize cupcakes or muffins, or even a big Easter cake to share.
The boys helped to make these by placing the eggs onto the cupcakes. (And by eating them - they both love marzipan!)

How to make Dinosaur Eye Cupcakes
Instructions
To make the Dinosaur Eye Cupcakes I used pre-colored fondant to make it easy. I rolled out the fondant as thin as possible (kids don't need too much fondant!) with my silicone rolling pin dusted with a little icing sugar to avoid sticking. Then I used plain round cookie cutters to cut fondant circles which I layered up. Then I shaped a scary black slit lizard pupil and a green eye ridge.
I used a little bit of jelly to stick the eye to the cupcake. The kids really enjoyed helping (actually they just grabbed any spare scraps of fondant ...)
I used mini Silicone cupcake holders for the dinosaur eyes. You could make them bigger if you wanted.

The T-Rex Skull Cupcakes were really easy! I just cut T-Rex skull shapes from Edible Wafer Rice Paper and stuck them on with a smear of jelly.

To decorate the Volcano Cupcakes I used a clay extruder (these are commonly sold and used for baking purpose although they were originally invented for pottery. Pop some red fondant and then yellow fondant in, extrude and you have lava. Arrange it running down the cupcakes into pools.
If you bake flat cupcakes you can always turn them upside down before decorating.

I used the Estwing E3-22P 22-Ounce Rock Pick as the model for these rock pick paleontology cupcakes. I rolled out red-fondant and cut out circles and then modelled the pick from blue and yellow fondant.

DInosaur Paleontologist Cupcakes
For these Stegosaurus Bones cupcakes I cut the shapes of fossil dinosaur bones from rice paper. I cut slits into the cupcakes with a sharp knife and then inserted the ends of the bones into the slits. I dusted the bones with chocolate powder dirt.
I went for a Stegosaurus because its bone plates are so distinctive. This one looked better in practice than in the photo. My boys knew it was a Stegosaurus skeleton immediately which made them feel like paleontologists!
