Dinosaur Activities, Crafts, Games and more

Recently my family had Dinosaur Day, a day where all things were dinosaur related. While preparing for the activities I realized that there were endless resources about dinosaurs available and that I wouldn't be able to even scratch the surface on Dinosaur Day. That is where this web page comes in, I have compiled the resources that I found in one place so that when my family has another Dinosaur Day we will have everything in one place. I would also like to share with you what we did on our Dinosaur Day.

Children Love To Learn About Dinosaurs

Parents love dinosaurs too!

Children love to learn about Dinosaurs. I know my two boys are obsessed with dinosaurs. "Rooooaaaaarrrrrr! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" These sounds often erupt from my children as they chase each other around. "I'm going to eat you, rooooaaaarrr!" Playing dinosaur is a favorite for both of them even though there are 7 years difference in their ages.

I have been trying to come up with fun and inexpensive ways to play with and teach my children, and theme days seem to be the answer. Dinosaur Day was a success for us and we will surely repeat Dinosaur Day so that we can do more of the activities found here.

The Dinosaur Dig

My favorite part of Dinosaur Day

The highlight of Dinosaur Day was the dinosaur dig. We took the kids to the park and while they played we went over so a section of the playground and hid little plastic dinosaurs in the sand for them to dig up. They dug with shovels, spoons, buckets, and even their feet. We had a great time on our dinosaur dig and we even found most of the dinosaurs.

T- Rex Hat

One activity we did was pretend we were dinosaurs. The boys put on dinosaur hats and chased each other, "grrrrrrrr, roaaaaaaar", as they played on the playground equipment at a local park. They had so much fun!

Dinosaur Books

Before heading to a local park to have dinosaur day we read a couple dinosaur books and talked about dinosaurs. We talked about how some dinosaurs were large and some were small and we also discussed the diets of different dinosaurs. The kids enjoyed our story time and learned alot.

Below are a few great dinosaur books to choose from.

How Did The Dinosaurs Become Extinct?

There's been alot of speculation about how the dinosaurs became extinct and I want to know once and for all who is right. State you belief and back it up. Let's settle this.

How do you think the dinosaurs became extinct?

Heat, I believe it was the result of fires from a giant meteor landing on earth

southshoretees says:

I think it was the fire from the meteor and the lack of breathable air that killed the dinosaurs. I'm sure it got quite cold after that period due to the dark skies, but I'm guessing they never got to that point. It's an interesting question to ask that I hope science will be able to accurately answer.

a_willow says:

Both theories are probable. So far it's mostly guessing. ;)

Cold, I believe the dinosaurs were killed by a massive freeze

Laniann says:

Because this is the reason I remember hearing the most about. But seems like there are many theories and reasons why.

mysticmama says:

I've never heard of the heat theory, but most scientists say that a major polar shift was probably caused by a major meteorite strike or massive Teutonic plate shifts caused major Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano's etc... which resulted in the Ice age that effectively eliminated the dinosaurs... so I say cold...lmao

Do You Think Dinosaurs Will Be Cloned?

Some people believe that dinosaurs will be cloned, others believe it will never happen. What do you think, what are your predictions?

MissMerFaery predicts:

Yikes! It's possible I guess... but did they learn nothing from Jurassic Park?? Lol!

Laniann predicts:

I hope not!

lakern26 predicts:

I certainly hope not! My boys already imagine that they hear dinosaurs. If they clone them, I'll never get them back to sleep in their own beds!

a_willow predicts:

Well... probably... but not in my lifetime!

luvmyludwig predicts:

Hopefully it'll be after I'm gone

Great stuff. We have themed days too. Pretty much every day is dinosaur day round here though!

I was dinosaur obsessed as a child, too. It's no wonder though, these are actual, once living, breathing creatures that roamed the earth, not fake science fiction monsters we've imagined. It's hard to not find them intriguing! Excellent job with this lens, it was a lot of fun.

Hi - Great lens and good to see your suggestions for getting your family enjoying dinosaurs. That's what I've tried to do for older children in Dinosaur Discovery; it's my first lens published yesterday and it turns out yours and mine are sort of complimentary. My two children aged 9 and 11 have really enjoyed finding out more about dinosaurs and if we add the two lenses together there's quite a lot for families to enjoy. Really enjoyed your lens - brought back happy memories!
