Dinosaur Halloween Costumes

Dinosaurs have been a fascinating subject for many people. They have sparked great imagination from young on to old. During the Mesozoic era, dinosaurs where the dominant land reptile. The word dinosaur is Greek in origin and was coined by the English biologist, Sir Richard Owen in 1842.

Obviously we know that some dinosaurs were herbivores while others were carnivores. The largest plant eating dinosaurs, such as the Apatosaurus and Brachiosaurus, were the largest animals to ever walk on dry land. Some of these plant eaters like Triceratops and Stegosaurus had built in weapons to use against the mighty carnivores. With the three horns on the Triceratops shield and the spikes on the tail of the Stegosaurus, they were a formidable opponent against any attacks that may come their way. Even the Ankylosaurus was covered in boney plates that protected him from becoming a meal.

Let's not forget about the flying reptiles such as the Pterodactyl that we often see in movies. Our oceans held many large reptiles such as the ichthyosaurs who looked more like a fish with a long narrow snout and the plesiosaurs who had long necks and short tails or short necks and long tails and paddled themselves with flippers.

No doubt the most commonly thought of dinosaur has to be the the carnivore, Tyrannosaurs Rex. He was, without a doubt, feared by many other dinosaurs. It is no wonder that we are in awe of dinosaurs. It is also no wonder why people seek out dinosaur halloween costumes. From newborn costumes to toddler halloween costumes, there are a wide variety.
