Diptyque Luxury scented candles- the perfect gift.
Diptyque Scented Candles- expensive but worth it.I think Diptyque make the best scented candles in the world, and Diptyque candles make the perfect special gift. I'd love to receive a Diptyque candle as a gift.
That's my opinion of Ditpyque candles anyway! I would be thrilled if my husband gave me a Diptyque candle as a gift, or if my sons gave me one for Mother's Day!
Every year, when my family asks what I'd like for a Christmas gift, a Birthday gift, or a Mother's Day gift, I say " a Diptyque scented candle please", but have I ever received a Diptyque scented candle? No! I haven't!.
What happens is that I'm given a perfectly nice scented candle, maybe a set of candles, from Body Shop, or Yankee Candles, which is fine, I'm very grateful, but I really wanted a Diptyque Candle!
I've recently shown my husband the Diptyque display at Selfridges store, Oxford Street, London, and told him how much I love Diptyque. I'm not sure he got the message!
I know what happens. My friends and family set out to buy me a Diptyque Candle, then they see the price and think "That's an awful lot of money for one candle. I know, I'll buy a set of cheaper candles, or maybe a less expensive candle, and some perfume, or bubble bath or....lots of really nice things, really ...",
But you know, the fact that one Diptyque candle costs $60, much more than most other candles, is exactly the reason why I want a Diptyque candle as a gift. It's more than I can justify spending on a candle for myself- I've got lots of other things that money could go on.
For me it would be a really great treat to have a Diptyque candle, with one of those very special Diptyque perfumes.
My rooms would smell of Berries, Cinnamon, Pine, or whatever fragrance of Diptyque candle they chose.

The History of Diptyque Candles
Paris, the capital of Romance, home of the Diptyque candle
Diptyque was founded as a fabric shop in Paris in 1961, and celebrated it's 50th anniversary last year.The three founders of Diptyque were;
Yves Coueslant, a stage designer, who grew up in Indochina,
Christiane Gautrot a designer, educated at the Ecole des Beaux Arts,
Desmond Knox-Leet, a painter.
They desribes themselves as "artisans".
These three friends became business partners, opening a shop at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain to " showcase their avant-garde fabric designs and decorative items from their travels."
The shop was filled with decorative bric-a-brac- a treasure trove of beautiful things, including candles, dyed to match the fabrics, and perfumes to enhance the ambiance of the shop. The candles themslves began to attract attention, and visitors to the shop began to spread with word about the Diptyque scented candles.
In 1963, the first diptyque scented candle was produced for sale in the shop.
In 1968, diptyque fragrances were launched.
Today, Diptyque candles and fragrances are in great demand by lovers of beautiful things all over the world, including many famous stars of stage, screen and the fashion world. From the capital of Romance comes the perfect Romantic gift for Valentine's day.
The name "Diptyque" seems unususal. In fact, it is a term used in architecture, and describes by the two "diptychs" or windows on either side of the door of the original boutique.
The original store was at 34, Boulevard Saint Germain, on the Rive Gauche ( Left Bank) of the Seine. This is the more bohemian side of Paris, home to the Sorboone, a hub of student life. For many Parisennes, this was a venture away from the more traditional shopping areas. However, this very special shop soon became a mecca for discerning shoppers, who flocked to Diptyque for its fabrics, its perfume, the ambiance of the shop playing all manner of music, full of beautiful things.
Today Diptyque is a world wide brand, but the business remains a niche market, beloved by many.

- Great lens. I have my own scented candle store http://www.scentedcandlestore.com - unfortunately despite my best efforts I can't stock Dyptique. They really are beautiful. They are a bit on the expensive side, but make a perfect gift for Christmas, Valentines Day or Mothers Day

- Being a candlemaker (soy only) I am always fascinated by the brands that command such high prices. Granted they are using much, much better oils than the cheapie stuff. I use high end oils too, and it makes a major difference - yet I still don't charge as much as Yankee.
I think the scent sample idea is excellent - they should offer it - or at very least , sell a smaller size so you can find out if it is something you REALLY want to spend that much on next time around.
PS - I send free tealight samples to my customers.

- Well they "sound" delightful. As Irenemaria says "pity we can't have a scent sample. If I had $60 dollars to spare and try them but I have no idea when that might be. No wonder you keep putting them on your gift wish list.
