How do I Ski Cheap?

So if you have taken my advice on my first lens How to....ski then we are on the way. My first lens gives you an idea on where to go on your skiing holiday. However, what other tips can be passed on to you to help you save as much as you can when booking your ski trip?
With the way things are going at the minute it always helps to save money when you can - but you still need to get away and have fun. Where is the point of working and earning money if you can't spend some of it on the things you love? You don't have to spend a fortune any more going skiing so be wise and get informed on the best way to go about booking your next holiday.

There is loads of advice that can be passed along so I have tried to put together my Top Tips that you can keep in mind when booking your next ski holiday. Feel free to leave any tips you think are missing. If you think there are better ones than those I have listed then definitely let me know and I will get them mentioned!

Top Tip #1 - Save Money

Book Early

Although we are closer to the start of the season this is a tip worth keeping in mind every year! One of the main benefits to booking early is it gives you plenty of time to pay for your holiday. You can split your payments up on a monthly basis which will make it easier for you to pay off. For example if you booked a holiday in March '09 that costs 900.00 but you are not due to travel until February 2010 then you would only need to pay 100.00 per month to be paid up in advance.
The only thing you need think about then is heading to the slopes and having a great time!

Top Tip #2 - Go with a group

Ski with friends

The more people that travel the better the price! If you book full occupancy of an apartment you will be able to pick up some great bargains! You will also be able to take advantage of great discounts on free places with free lift passes for group leaders....click here for more details
On top of this - the more that travel the better the apres ski ;)

Top Tip #3 - Book it online

Book your holiday online

Save money by booking online and receive a discount for the benefit of doing this! This way you will see the savings from not having to pay towards travel agents' commissions, brochure production or expensive marketing materials. For examples of these great prices just click here

Top Tip #4 - Book before you go

Prebook your sports equipment

Pre-booking ski tuition and equipment hire offers you the best prices on skis, boots, sticks and lift passes. It also means you will have everything paid for before travelling! You will just need your spending money when on holiday.

Top Tip #5 - Borrow your ski clothes

If possible borrow your ski clothing from family or friends

If you are new to the sport why not see if you can borrow the gear you need rather than buy it. You may be able to borrow the goggles, gloves, ski jacket etc. rather than paying full price for new outfits. If you can't borrow it then try to buy through second hand shops or smaller lesser known outdoor stores.

Top Tip #6 - Pack a babysitter!

Bring someone with you to look after the kids

If you are traveling with children then bring your own babysitter. Maybe bring along a niece, nephew or granny :)
This will save you from having to pay higher prices for childcare in resort. It may also give you more peace of mind to know who your child is left with.

Top Tip #7 - Learn to Ski packs

Beginners Bargains

If you are a complete novice to the sport then you can take advantage of special packages that have been put together with you in mind. Some resorts offer Learn to Ski or Learn to Snowboard packs. These packs will cover your equipment hire, school and lift pass at a better rate than if you were to pay for each item individually. If you tea this saving with a duty free resort then you'll be saving even more!
Although these packs are mainly geared towards introducing people to the sport some resorts do also offer them for non beginners also so check your destination before making your final decision.

Top Tip #8 - Choose your destination

The resort you go for can increase or decrease the cost!

In my first lens (How to....ski) I touched on some of the different types of people that go skiing and I mentioned Andorra as an option if you are looking for great bargains. Here you will get duty free prices in resort and some of the best deals to get there are online. If you have a group going then look into sharing max occupancy in apartments in Pas de la Casa for example. Everything is covered here including great nihtlife.
Another duty free resort worth looking at would be to Livigno in Italy. Again there are some great deals here and you have access to a big ski area which also helps!!

Top Tip #9 - Get a lift to the airport

Again talk nicely to family/ friends

When heading to the airport try to organise a lift. This way you could avoid paying high charges for airport parking. So if you can't bribe someone to take you to the airport (with love and affection of course) then be sure to book the parking well in advance of your departure date.

Let me know what you think

Why not say hi or if you have some tips not listed here that you reckon are better/ will help others to save money please let me know and I will get them listed.
