Disability is difficult to define and is no longer considered a characteristic defined by a medical condition alone as disability is an umbrella term, encompassing a range of situations. The group often identified as people with disabilities is quite heterogeneous, as individuals vary in their basic functional abilities and adaptation methods and they face different types of barriers to participation in school, work, and social activities.
