Lies To Tell Your Children About What a Disco Stick Is

Here it is...the moment you've been dreading...your little one whom you've watched grow since they were the tiniest of babies looks up at you, at the adorable age of six and asks, "Mommy, What is a disco stick?"

What are you going to say? Do you laugh, tell the truth, avoid the topic, tell them they should be listening to Lady Gaga anyway? Or have you already put together your tidy little lie to spare you from the situation?

That's the way to go. A lie! Plan ahead and have your "disco stick" meaning on hand for when this question comes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Parents shouldn't let their kids listen to this music, so it shouldn't be needed, right? The fact of the matter is, though, that you can't keep your child hidden from the world. They hear things and experience things that you never even realize. While you can try your best to keep things from your kids, there are outside forces at play that you simply cannot control.

Love Game Lyrics

Featuring The Disco Stick

Let's have some fun. This beat is sick.

I wanna take a ride on your disco stick.

Don't think too much just bust that kick.

I wanna take a ride on your disco stick.

Possible Meaning of "Disco Stick" to Tell Your Kids

(If They Ask)

Honey, "Disco Stick" is another term for microphone. The mic stand stands like a stick and she wants to "take a ride on the disco stick" meaning she wants her turn to sing on the mic.

Well, you know what a disco ball is, right? The beams of light that come out of a disco ball are called "disco sticks". So, when she says she wants a ride on the disco stick, she is saying she wants to dance.

"Disco Sticks", dear, are any set of drum sticks when they are preforming a disco beat. By saying she wants to "ride the disco stick" means she wants to play the drums.

A disco stick is Star Wars light saber. It glows like a disco ball. By saying she wants to "ride the disco stick" means she wants to fight with light sabers.

NOTE: If you child has a toy light saber, this could lead to them asking others to ride their disco stick.

Well, whenever someone does limbo to disco music, the stick is called a disco stick as opposed to a limbo stick. So when she wants to "take a ride on your disco stick" meaning she wants her turn to go under the limbo stick.

The Quest for Gaga

Should we always tell our kids the truth?

Should adults always be honest with our children? Or are there times when a little white lie will do just fine?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Honesty always.

Indy says:

Explaining to your kids the truth behind the meaning AND the ramifications of repeating it is essential. Lying about it only to have them learn it from their friends will lead them to use it socially and most certainly with the full knowledge of what it means. Not to mention they'll start picking up on the fact that YOU lie, and will probably continue to do so because you cannot respect them enough to be upfront.

leexxx says:

You should always tell the truth! Otherwise they may hear rumors and it's better coming from the parents.

J says:

How are kids gonna learn to deal with the world if it's presented other than it is? Tell them the truth, explain it's not a phrase they should use and move on, distract them with something else. There friends are likely to explain otherwise, better they here it from a parents than a peer.

Chuck Norris says:

The earlier they know, the better!

Silver the Hedgehog. says:

Obviously yes. they need to know a day and it's better way to learn is with the parents.

Lies. Give them lies.

Faith says:

Good idea teach your kids about pensis and lady gaga wanting to "ride" one when their only two :) It was just on the news here in U.K two 10 year old boys raped an 8 year old girl (check bbc news website). I'd love to know how these CHILDREN even new what to do/what sex is if it wasn't for crap like this and porn. Yh but keep backing up this crap, one day it will be your child. Not that half you care. There is as different between a child and a teen. Children don't need to know this stuff yet, teens are a different story.

maggie says:

lies i am not going to say the truth

Emily says:

tell them a lie, they will learn eventually, but at least it would be when they are in their teen years.

I wouldn't have to disagree on lying and here's why. You don't want you're kids to not believe you and you sure as hell don't want you're child to know about sex and all that at the age of 6!! Here's what I would do, tell him/her only half of the truth. Explain to them that it is a grown up thing and it's not suitible for children. They aren't stupid, kids are VERY smart. They already know who gots what and there's no point in telling them how to use it.

I was the Queen of Avoidance when my kids were little. If my girls had ask me that question my answer would have been..."I don't know sweetie. What do you think it is?" Their innocent little answer would make me say, "Well that must be what it is then." Now if they told me what it REALLY was I would have choked to death!
