Nice topic! So glad my kids don't like Lady GaGa.

    Interesting Lens.

You know, I had always assumed that it meant something, but now it's confirmed. I'm not too pleased that she put that in her song, but it's Lady Gaga, and I love her music, so I'll deal. :)

Holy Cow. I didn't even know about that term myself until I read this lens! And now, adfter reading the words from that song, I am singularly UNimpressed with Lady Gaga.

I am sooooooooooo glad I don't have kids. Although I have a nephew who asked me at the age of four if I knew who made god.

Awesome Lens, it was so much fun to read it!
  • Creative_Butterfly Jul 6, 2011 @ 2:56 pm | delete
This is a very funny lens! I don't have kids, but I'm around kids a lot. I'll be sure to be this creative if they ever ask me!
  • JCEverett Jun 27, 2011 @ 4:02 pm | delete
Wow nice and creative lens. I got a similiar question about phone sex from my niece, but she's my niece and she's six so I just said ask your mommy....whew...I am not rushing to be a parent.
  • UpFriends May 30, 2011 @ 10:28 pm | delete
The kicker is why does she want to ride the disco stick? I got this question a few months ago from both a 5 and 8 year old. I said it was a sliding/treadmill type machine at a dance club that makes people look like they're moving side to side without moving their legs..lol....rolled off great and they bought it!
  • Hairdresser007 May 13, 2011 @ 9:32 pm | delete
that's funny that I stumbled across this lens. Last night we watched her concert from Madison Square in NYC and noticed a young girl going in with her parents. Of course, I thought yeah kids love Gaga. Then I watched the concert and was shocked by one of the songs. She did not refer to Disco Sticks but another name that I won't put here! So, I was wondering what were those parents doing to that kid? did they cover her ears and eyes? or did they just tell her. it was super graphic. I don't have kids and don't judge or have an opinion, just thought it was interesting and tried to imagine how I would deal with it.

Pretty funny! Thanks for stopping by my lens :)

Congrats on the Purple Star, well deserved.
  • ToTheBrimm Mar 27, 2011 @ 7:33 pm | delete
I think the question here is: if I ask my children what a disco stick is, what will they tell me?
  • lbos114 Apr 26, 2011 @ 4:22 pm | delete
oooh man.... That one crossed my mind!
  • sorana Mar 21, 2011 @ 10:16 am | delete
If you don't know what it is how can you tell the kids a lie!? Funny.
  • Random passer-by Mar 16, 2011 @ 10:56 pm | delete
Double-entendres aside, Lady Gaga actually has a prop that she uses on stage that she calls a disco stick. http://ladygaga.wikia.com/wiki/Disco_Stick
  • lens4Him Mar 12, 2011 @ 4:14 pm | delete
I shall have to rely on one of my grandchildren telling me what one is :)
  • NaturalMommys Feb 24, 2011 @ 3:03 pm | delete
This gave me a laugh :)
  • wordstock Feb 17, 2011 @ 12:29 pm | delete
Could you please write one on how to explain a wet dream. My kid knows all the Beatles lyrics.
  • AllyVuitton Jan 18, 2011 @ 10:16 am | delete
Funny, but also helpful for parents at this stage - blessed.
  • LisaAuch Jan 17, 2011 @ 9:12 am | delete
Too funny for words! but it was a great time!
  • LadyJasmine Jan 16, 2011 @ 2:09 am | delete
    Hahahahahahah! Too funny. :)
  • heidishome Jan 15, 2011 @ 6:51 am | delete
Ok. This is hilarious because my 4 and 6 year olds somehow know this song and I am dreading if they every ask! I think I will use distraction techniques at their age. Blessed for humor!
  • scar4 Jan 4, 2011 @ 11:36 pm | delete
I'd rather hide the truth when being asked this embarrassing question.
  • Greekgeek Dec 20, 2010 @ 2:09 pm | delete
    Very funny lens.
I haven't had kids so I'm not sure.
I think I'd tell them it's one of those adult things like kissing that's a little weird, and not to worry about it. I wasn't particularly traumatized by knowing about the birds and the bees and reproduction when I was very young; I just thought adults were weird. ("You put WHAT in WHERE? But WHY? That's so weird.")
But we'll see. I can't say for sure until I get kiddlybeans.

I've no kids so it's not an issue. :)
  • LabKitty Oct 12, 2010 @ 4:53 pm | delete
Think this is bad? Try having your mom ask you what a "MILF" is...
  • the777group Oct 4, 2010 @ 10:03 pm | delete
"Rock'n'Roll" itself, is a metaphor for the two-backed beast.
  • emerald125 Sep 26, 2010 @ 11:53 pm | delete
I cringe when I hear young girls singing along to this... I actually explained to my 11 yr old what it was so she would stop lol
  • spirituality Sep 21, 2010 @ 1:40 pm | delete
I hadn't heard of these either :) fun lens
  • missbat Sep 17, 2010 @ 10:25 pm | delete
Definitely a hilarious topic when you don't have kids. I'll have to show this to my friend; her second grader has probably already asked her what one is!
  • GrowWear Aug 27, 2010 @ 2:36 pm | delete
Well, until I came to this page, I could have told the outright truth: I don't know, sweetie, that's the first time I ever heard of it. :D
  • lisakleinweber Aug 3, 2010 @ 5:12 pm | delete
Love it. Very creative and it made me laugh. thanks for the smile and the deep thought :)

I enjoyed reading this light-hearted lense. After a hard day's work at the office, it's great to relax. And I happened to enjoy Lady Gaga's music. Really catchy tunes. The lyrics never bothered me because I never listened to the words much :)

What a great article. Made me think. Blessed today by this Squid Angel.
  • Sakura-kun Apr 29, 2010 @ 1:23 pm | delete
The term "Disco stick" is awfully rude...My children have guessed what it is and laugh whenever LG says it. O.e
  • Tonya Apr 5, 2010 @ 1:53 am | delete
    This made me lol. :D

This was a great idea for a lens.
  • enslavedbyfaeries Jan 28, 2010 @ 11:10 pm | delete
Oh, this is too funny! I wonder if my youngest daughter has this song on her iPod?! I've been pretty careful about editing her playlist, but I may have let this one slip through. Going to check before I have some explaining to do, LOL!!
  • Penus Jan 6, 2010 @ 1:22 am | delete
I'd tell them to ask their father...
  • Jamie Dec 25, 2009 @ 8:50 pm | delete
I wouldn't have to disagree on lying and here's why. You don't want you're kids to not believe you and you sure as hell don't want you're child to know about sex and all that at the age of 6!! Here's what I would do, tell him/her only half of the truth. Explain to them that it is a grown up thing and it's not suitible for children. They aren't stupid, kids are VERY smart. They already know who gots what and there's no point in telling them how to use it.

lady gaga is bad i am not leting her listin to lady gaga anymore
  • chicken Nov 3, 2009 @ 5:03 pm | delete
tell them that disco sticks are the sticks that connect to a disco balls
  • BevsPaper Oct 7, 2009 @ 11:00 pm | delete
I was the Queen of Avoidance when my kids were little. If my girls had ask me that question my answer would have been..."I don't know sweetie. What do you think it is?" Their innocent little answer would make me say, "Well that must be what it is then." Now if they told me what it REALLY was I would have choked to death!
  • kab Sep 26, 2009 @ 2:18 pm | in reply to SB | delete
that doesn't explain how she plans to "ride it".
  • SB Sep 6, 2009 @ 2:37 pm | delete
Didn't anyone ever consider telling their kids that it's what Lady Gaga calls her sparkly prop magic wand looking thing? She's already provided the easy out for that one!
  • hlkljgk Sep 3, 2009 @ 6:10 pm | delete
    hahaha too funny
  • Matthew Sep 1, 2009 @ 6:04 pm | delete
I think you should tell your children that a disco stick is a little breadstick. Then say that she is hungry and wants too eat bread.
  • worldbuilder Aug 21, 2009 @ 9:55 am | delete
I am glad too that my kids are grown up and I don't have to answer anymore questions anymore! I don't know what I would have said, probably 'go ask your dad' would have been best. Funny stuff here.
  • lou16 Aug 19, 2009 @ 6:32 pm | delete
My dd told me what a disco stick was..............apparently it's the baton that the girls in the marching band throw up in the air and catch and apparently Lady GaGa really wants to learn how to catch it properly instead of just holding it!!!! When I'm asked a what is question I always ask what they think it is first, sometimes their ideas are priceless and it gives me a minute to think how I'm going to answer them!
  • mosaic Aug 17, 2009 @ 2:35 pm | delete
Great lens! Very clever. :) I think these songs are terrrrrrible. Bleh.
  • clemency Aug 17, 2009 @ 10:25 am | delete
Cool lens, very funny, now I have a choice of answers for my nine year old who loves pop music but still believes in fairies!
  • CherylK Aug 15, 2009 @ 2:53 pm | delete
I barely know who Lady Gaga is so I had to read this lens just to find out!! Thank goodness my kids are all grown up - I'd be a basket case if I had to explain this stuff! Great job, kab...love your "lies" :-)
  • qlcoach Aug 15, 2009 @ 10:03 am | delete
This lens is fun, enjoyable, and well crafted. You understand the power of Squidoo! I found you on lens roll. Hope you will visit my new lens about travel and dream trips. And let me know what you think of my video, Dreams the Eby Way....Gary.

I cannot agree with you more. That line made me want to punch the guy in the face. He's got a lot of confidence for an ugly dude.
  • lemonsqueezy Aug 7, 2009 @ 9:37 pm | delete
Fabulous, fabulous lens. Also, what about "do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips." Another "classic." I think that my chin did, quite literally, hit the floor when I heard the lyrics.
