Carat is the size of the diamond. Big diamonds will be several carats. While most people believe that the larger the diamond is, the better the quality, this is false. A big diamond can be cloudy and be cut poorly just as a smaller diamond can have a perfect cut and excellent color and clarity. The overall rating of the diamond decides the price, not the overall size of the diamond.
