The typical habitat of a Discus fish is warm water with a variety of plants and a diverse aqua scape of rocks and caves. The discus fish is accustomed to soft water in the acidic ph ranges. For a healthy discus fish aquarium I recommend emulating this environment in the following ways:

Adjust the PH of your water: The discus fish is comfortable living in water with a PH of 6.

Regulate the aquarium temperature: The ideal temperature for the discus fish aquarium is 84 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees to 31 degrees Celsius).

Give the Discus some space! The minimum aquarium size I would suggest for Discus fish is 42x15x15 inches.

Clean non-toxic water: The Discus Fish Aquarium should have low levels of chloramines (ammonia and chlorine). Many areas in the US contain varying levels of chloramines in their tap water, so take measures to test and treat the water (The water should be clean and have zero ammonia and nitrate levels).
