Disney's Bambi

Ranked #9,309 in Entertainment, #104,018 overall

Honoring the amazing animation, Bambi.

This is a tribute to Disney's 5th full length animated feature, Bambi, released in 1942.

I'm assuming that you've already seen this movie and have really enjoyed it. I've created this lens to be a fan page, but also a place to honor this film. Thanks very much for visiting, and feel free to contribute your thoughts about this page!

This film is a visual and musical marvel, bringing together the artistic techniques the Disney animators had learned in their previous 4 films. The backgrounds are all beautifully crafted and the music deserves its academy award for best music score.

"Bambi" was a little different from its earlier Disney movies, in that it was based off a children's book instead of a fairy tale. Its a story about the forest animals from their perspective, giving us an opportunity to learn what they think and how they react in their struggle for survival. There's no magic, mythical creatures, or anything extraordinary about the animal characters other than they are very intelligent and can talk. It seems they chose to base this fantasy in our reality so that its easier to establish an emotional connection with the characters.

Bambi

Main Character

Bambi and a butterfly

Bambi is just about the cutest Disney character ever. A watery eyed, unsteady little fawn for the first 2/3 of the movie, he innocently discovers the wonders of the forest.

Later he has to learn several of life's lessons and not only grow to be a respectable member of the forest, but become an honored leader that all creatures look up to.

My first Bambi Video

This is just a short video that showing how incredibly innocent Bambi. With the help of thumper, he's already learning about the forest and his first words even though he's a newborn.

Bambi and his Mother

Bambi and his mother

Similar to the type of relationship Dumbo has with his mother, Bambi sticks very close to her throughout the first half of the movie. Bambi's mother teaches her child about the realities of living in the forest and most importantly, how to survive. Being very aware of the dangers of the forest she's always on guard.

Thumper

Mischievous Wabbit

Thumper

He just loves showing off to Bambi the neat things around the forest, and seems very laid back (until he meets his girlfriend of course). He's certainly the loudest of his many siblings, and a bit smart-alecky. His trademark is how he stomps the ground rapidly with one foot when he gets excited, wants to attract attention, (or anything else for that matter).

Friend Owl

Wise and Irritable

Being very old and wise he can get cranky and sometimes orders the other animals around. He's my favorite, with his character design and eccentric mannerisms.

Flower

Unexpected ally

Flower from Bambi

Unlike in other cartoons, there's nothing to fear from this gentle skunk. In fact, there aren't any animals that even show a hint of fear of his potential stench. Since he was hiding in a bed of flowers when he pops up, Bambi mistakenly names him "Flower" and the name stuck. He does seem rather feminine, but he just prefers to be soft-spoken and gentle. The adult flower is voiced by Sterling Holloway (Winnie the Pooh, Cheshire Cat etc).

Faline

Bambi's beloved best friend

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Faline is all over Bambi after they first meet. She's playful and teasing as a kid, and gentle and kind as an adult. She's also liked by Ronno (who is unnamed in the first movie) and Bambi has to fight the adult Ronno to protect her.

Prince of the Forest

Magnificent Protector

Prince of the forest

He wins the respect of all the creatures of the forest since he's lived the longest and is considered the wisest. Its later revealed that he's Bambi's father, and he leads him to safety after Bambi's mother falls victim to the hunter. He has a keen sense of smelling danger, and warns the animals before they get hurt. Also he has a deep commanding voice. (In Bambi 2 he's Patrick Stewart)

The Hunter(s)

The villains

The hunter from Bambi

Bambi is an interesting movie, being so cartoony with the animals, but trying to keep the situations based in reality. People hunt all the time, and aren't considered "bad guys". But in Bambi, the hunter was certainly the villain. Shooting wildly at anything that moved, unleashing a pack of bloodthirsty dogs and carelessly starting a forest fire, the hunter wasn't a very likeable character. Also, they purposely never showed him on screen which effectively made him even more menacing.
