Enchanted - An Enchanting Film

 

Disney's Enchanted takes the best of some of the Disney classics combines them with some of the updated Fairy tales to create what is destined to become a new classic. Enchanted combines elements of Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid with tributes to many of the other Disney classics in this modern fairy tale.

In this new Disney film the fairytale collides with modern-day New York City in a story about an animated princess (Amy Adams) who is sent to the real world by an evil queen where she meets a real charming person (Patrick Dempsey)who turns into a prince.

Enchanted has quickly become one of my favorite all time movies. I took my daughters to see it around Christmas and we all enjoyed it immensely. Now that it is out on DVD, we are getting to know the film even better.

It is a wonderful twist to the classic fairy tale, where the princess turns into a real person to land her prince, another real person in the real world. I feel it is a more realistic fairy tale for today's young girls along the lines of "Ever After."

Enchanted the Film on Wikipedia 

Enchanted is a 2007 musical film, directed by Kevin Lima and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Josephson Entertainment. It premiered on October 20 2007 at the London Film Festival before it was released on November 21 2007 in the United States. The film, both homage to and a self-parody of conventional Disney animated features, makes numerous references to Disney's past and future works, and blends live action filmmaking, traditional animation and computer-generated imagery. The plot focuses on Giselle, an archetypal Disney Princess who is forced from her 2D-animated world of Andalasia into real-life New York City.

The film heralds the return of traditional animation to a Disney feature film after the company's decision to move entirely to computer animation in 2004. Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, who had written songs for previous Disney films, produced Enchanteds'' songs, with Menken also composing its score.

Starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey, and Susan Sarandon, the film was well-received critically and garnered two nominations at the 65th Golden Globe Awards and three nominations at the 80th Academy Awards. The film also proved to be a commercial success, earning more than $340 million worldwide at the box office.
