The toy story 3 movie opens with an Old West scene, a train rushing through the desert with Mr. Potato Head, alias one eyed Bart, laughing over his stolen riches he's just raided from the trains bank carriage safe. He's abruptly interrupted by Sheriff Woody who is here to arrest him. But Mrs. Potato Head, alias one eyed Betty, shows up and manages to knock Woody off the train !

Fortunately for Sheriff Woody, Bullseye and Jessie are at the rear of the train and catch him and they race after the villains and the train. The potato heads however have another sinister plot ready, they blow up the bridge the train is heading for and then we realize the train is full of Troll orphans. Announcing their lift is here the potato heads jump from the train into a Barbie convertible being driven by the three aliens, leaving Woody, Jessie and Bullseye to save the train full of orphans as it races toward the destroyed bridge.

Despite their best efforts, the train plummets over the edge of the destroyed bridge and Jessie believes that's the end of the Trolls and Woody . . . but then after a bright blue flash the train and all its occupants flies back up, being lifted aloft to safety by Buzz Lightyear.

With the Trolls safe, Woody, Buzz and Jessie are free to go after the Potato Heads. Mr potato head tells them that they can't touch him because he has brought his attack dog with a built in force field and in comes Slinky to make a force field around the villains, to which Sheriff Woody replies that he has brought his dinosaur who eats force field dogs, to which Rex appears and roars like never before. With that a shadow starts to appear over the toys as Hamm hovers above, Buzz declares, 'Evil Dr Pork Chop' !

Hamm teleports the villains up to his craft and then releases a barrel of Death By Monkeys. As the monkeys catch Rex, Woody, Buzz and Jessie Mr potato head gets ready to unleash their final blast when we see that it was an old home movie of Andy when he was young.

A cinefilm montage of a young Andy playing shows us how much he loved his toys.

Prepare for the attic

Operation Playtime Fails

All the toys are now in a big box in Andy's bedroom, about to execute a big plan. The Army men bring Andy's cell phone to the toy box and Jessie calls it from the house phone. Andy digs through the old toys, picks up his phone and then tosses them back in and drops the lid complaining to his sister Mollie to stay out his room. Discouraged, the toys realize that operation playtime was a long shot and their last chance in getting noticed. Andy is off to college and is no longer interested in playing with them.

Woody announces that he's 'calling it, and closing up shop'. Buzz tells the toys that we are 'going into attic mode folks' before noticing Sarge and the last two army soldiers making their way to the window. Sarge tells the toys 'Wars over folks, me and the boys are moving on, we done our duty, Andy's grown up, it has been an honor serving with you' and with that the Army men bail out the window, throwing the toys into another tizzy. They worry that they should leave before they get thrown out, Jessie thinks their being abandoned but Woody convinces them that although they have lost friends along the way, Andy will just tuck them in the attic along with the games, books and the racecar track and that it will be fun with the guys from the Christmas lights. The toys unenthusiastically agree and start to prepare, Mrs potato head sees her missing eye somewhere 'dark and dusty' and Hamm wants a last look on ebay to see how much the toys are going for at the minute.

Andy's mother insists that he clean his room, categorizing his belongings into either attic, college or garbage and tells Mollie that she has more toys than she knows what to do with and some could make other children happy at daycare and gives her a box marked sunnyside telling her to sort the toys she wants to donate. Andy halfheartedly opens a trash bag and tosses all the toys into it, pausing with Woody and Buzz Lightyear in his hands, contemplating.. . . then drops Buzz into the bag and Woody into the box to take to college. The toys think they are being thrown out Woody runs after the other toys, also worried that they're going to be sent to the garbage. Instead, Andy opens the attic hatch but just as he starts to climb the ladder Mollie is struggling lifting the sunnyside box and Andy leaves the bag at the foot of the ladders to help his sister take the box downstairs.

Andy's mum notices the bag and believes it to be garbage, Woody tries to think and whistles Buster, who now plods along showing signs now of aging and no longer able to help Woody out. Andy's mum drops the bags by the curb and the garbage truck is approaching so with scissors in hand, Woody heads out to rescue his friends. He slashes open bags as the truck arrives, but only finds garbage. He watches as the bags are squashed into the truck and he fears the worst but then he hears a noise behind him and turns to see everyone under a recycling box, running for the garage. Buzz tries to calm the toys down while Jessie scopes out the area and notices the sunnyside box in the trunk of the car and declares 'fellows, I know what to do' and has everyone get into the Sunnyside donation box. Woody arrives to tell them that Andy didn't mean to throw them away and they were meant to be in the attic but the toys are convinced that he did and they have decided to go to the daycare. While the toys argue Andy's mum comes, the door is closed and as she drives off heading to sunnyside with the toys stuck in the trunk continuing to argue until they reach the daycare.

Sunnyside Daycare

The Toys Meet Lotso

Andy's mom brings the box of toys into Sunnyside Daycare and the toys peek out, thinking it looks nice. Jessie tells Bullseye that there's a playground and that they've hit the jackpot. Andy's mum stands chatting and we meet Bonnie, a young girl who obviously loves playing with toys. The box is carried to the butterfly room and the toys notice there are children everywhere, playing with all the various toys . . . it looks like paradise. The recess bell rings and the kids head outdoors. Rex, trying to see out the hole in the box, knocks it off its spot and the toys spill out onto the floor in front of all the daycare toys who are very excited to see the new toys and give them a real warm welcome.

A dumptruck comes up with a pink bear in the back who introduces himself as Lotso, a hugging teddy bear. He assures them that they'll be played with all day every day except weekends and that new kids are constantly coming in and having no owner mean no heartbreak. Lotso shouts Ken and he appears and asks 'who's ready for Ken's dream tour ?' and with that notices Barbie and they both comment on the others clothing as if they've known each other for an era.

Everything seems perfect as they are shown around and meet Big Baby, a toy who was thrown out with Lotso. They are told they will be staying in the Caterpillar Room and that the younger children love new toys. The toys are thrilled, Ken persuades Barbie to come live in his dream home even though they've only just met but they feel like they were 'made for each other'. Woody admits that it is nice here but that the toys really should go home, but the toys disagree and ask Woody to stay with them. Woody is still determined to get back home and after a long argument, he leaves the other toys, and makes his way to find his way home.

On leaving the caterpillar room Woody has to grab the underneath of the janitor's trash truck as it passes by and ends up in the toilets with the janitor nearly spotting him in the mirror as he escapes through the window. He make his way onto the roof only to find between himself and the perimeter wall is the play area full of children still on recess. At that point the wind blows his hat off and it comes to rest next to a child's kite. Woody runs with the kite and takes off from the roof heads straight over the wall and lands perfectly on the sidewalk....until a gust of wind propels him skyward, way up above the daycare below, the kite breaks and he falls avoiding the sidewalk by having his pullcord getting tangled in a tree leaving him hanging helplessly. There he is rescued by Bonnie, who puts him in her bag and gets into her mums car ready to head home but unfortunately Woody has lost his hat and it gets left on the grass outside sunnyside.

Back in the Caterpillar Room, the other toys prepare for the end of recess and playtime. Buzz notices that the local toys are starting to hide and as the bell rings he finds out why. The kids are small and rough, messing up the toys, chewing on them and bashing them around using them as paint brushes and hammers. During this Buzz can see that in the butterfly room where Ken and Lotso live, everyone is kind and gentle and plays with the toys nicely.

Things Get Worse For The Toys

Its Been A Hard Days Playtime

Woody finds himself in a tea party with several other toys, Buttercup, Trixie and Mr Pricklepants at Bonnie's. The little girl is very imaginative, much like Andy once was and the toys in Bonnie's room are all very friendly and polite, the peas in a pod make Woody realize he has lost his hat and he meets Dolly the doll. He feels warmth as he hasn't felt in a long time as Bonnie plays with all her toys.

The toys in Sunnyside aren't faring as well, after a hard day's playtime they look for their missing parts and put themselves back together and realize that the younger children don't know how to play with them correctly and that they should be in the butterfly room. Buzz decides to go talk to Lotso about their designations, but everything is locked. Finally he escapes the room through an open transom and discovers a few strange happenings and follows some toys into a candy vending machine. Buzz discovers some of the toys involved in a betting game, while he listens to them, they start talking about the new recruits. He hears them say that himself and the other new recruits won't last a week and are all disposable. Just as Buzz turns to go back Big Baby is stood in his path and grabs him, throwing him to the gambling toys who put a sack over him and take him to the library.

Meanwhile Woody starts planning on how to get back to Andy. A dinosaur toy is familiar with the computer and they head off to find out where Andy's house is in comparison to Bonnie's.

Buzz Lightyear is in big trouble back at Sunnyside. He's tied up in the library until Lotso arrives and lets him go. When Buzz points out that he and his friends are not the right toys for the Caterpillar Room, Lotso promotes him to the Butterfly Room and announces to the other toys that they have found themselves a 'keeper', but explains to Buzz that for the good of the community, some toys have to stay with the little kids, including his friends. When Buzz protests, Lotso has him put back into the time out chair and calls for the bookworm who promptly throws Lotso the Buzz Lightyear instruction manual and the toys 'reset' Buzz by turning his switch from play back to demo setting.

The toys in the Caterpillar Room hear Buzz yell and Mrs. Potato Head sticks her eye under the door to see what is going on. In the process, she sees from her other eye, the one she was unable to find earlier, which is under Andy's bed and realizes that Andy is looking for them and wasn't trying to throw them out.

Lotso arrives and the toys tell him that they have to leave. He tells them that they can't go anywhere and when they try to leave anyway we understand Buzz's new title of keeper, he attacks his friends and immobilizes them and carries out Lotso's command of locking 'em up. Mr Potato Head talks back to his captors and Lotso instructs Big Baby to 'take him to the box' for the night and for Buzz to explain the overnight accommodations.....'prisoners sleep in their cells, any prisoner caught outside their cell spends the night in the box. Roll call at dusk and dawn, any prisoner misses roll call spends the night in the box, prisoners do not speak unless spoken to, any prisoner talks back spends' and Jessie continues 'the night in the box, we get it'. Before Lotso leaves he tells the toys to abide by their rules and throws Woody's hat towards them to make them believe something has happened to him.

Woody finds out that Andy's house is just around the corner and heads out, telling Bonnie's toys that if they make it to Sunnyside, to tell his friends he got home. They are stunned that he escaped from the daycare and when Woody asks about this, he's directed to a clown toy, Chuckles, who grew up with Lotso. He explains that Lotso is twisted because they were on a drive one day when they took a rest stop and had a little playtime but Daisy fell asleep during it and was carried back to the car. Three toys, Lotso, Big Baby and Chuckles were left. When they finally managed to get home, Lotso had been replaced by another hugging bear. Something snapped in Lotso and he turned evil yelling at Chuckles and Big Baby that they had all been replaced. Lost, unloved and unwanted the three toys accidentally end up at sunnyside and Chuckles finishes explaining that Lotso ended up taking over Sunnyside and rigged the whole system.

Woody To The Rescue

The Toys Need Help

All the toys in jail are sad and miserable, morning has arrived and Lotso and his mob turn up to return Mr Potato Head, who had spent the night in the sand box outside, and to pick Buzz up to take him with them. The bell rings and the children start to arrive, Bonnie hangs up her backpack, Woody had snuck into it in her bedroom and he climbs out and up into the ceiling, there he makes his way to the Caterpillar Room where he climbs from the ceiling and scampers to a safe spot where he witnesses his friends being played with very roughly.

A chatter telephone toy who is hiding from the children nearby grabs his attention and tells Woody that he shouldn't have come back and that they've stepped up the guards and patrols since he's been gone. He tells Woody there's only one way out of here..'trash truck comes at dawn and then it's off to the dump' as they both watch the janitor dispose of an old toy into the garbage. Woody asks for his help from one toy to another, the chatter telephone tells Woody all about the security measures around the daycare.

The doors are locked every night, inside and out, the keys are left on a hook in the office, Lotso's trucks patrolling all night long, hallway, lobby, playground. Woody asks about the wall......eight feet high, cinderblock, no way through it, you go over or under but the real problems the monkey who sits in the control room and watches everything on the security monitors, he's the eye in the sky and he see's everything. The chatter telephone tells Woody if he wants to get out of here he's got to 'get rid of that monkey'.

During recess, while the children go out to play, Woody calls his friends together into a safe spot. They're all so excited and relieved to see him alive, Bullseye gives him his hat back and Woody asks about Buzz. Rex, Slinky and Hamm explain that Lotso has done something to him and he thinks he's a real space ranger again. Jessie and Mr Potato Head explain that they were wrong to leave Andy but Woody takes his part of the responsibility and says 'from now on we stick together' and they plan to bust out of the daycare that night.

The Great Escape

The Toys Have A Plan

That night, as they are back in their cells they put their plan into action. Ken is taking the roster of the prisoners but Mr Potato Head has managed to switch himself with a real potato, enabling himself to distract everyone and while he occupies them Woody grabs Slinky and takes him into the ceiling whilst leaving a bag of marbles on the floor. Mr potato Head is once again taken to 'the box' but once thrown inside he sneaks all of his body parts out except his body which won't fit through. Barbie calls Ken back over to the cells and convinces him to take her back to the butterfly room and his dream house.

Woody and Slinky have got into the security room where the monkey is watching the security cameras, they try to capture him but things don't run quite as planned and a fight ensues. Ken starts to show Barbie his vast collection of clothes back in the dream house and Barbie asks him to model a few of the outfits for her. Woody and Slinky have managed to immobilize the monkey by taping him up and shutting him in an office drawer. Woody grabs the door keys and Slinky alerts the other toys still in their cells to start implementing the next stage of the plan via a security camera. Hamm and Rex start fighting in jail to distract Buzz, while he's trying to break them up Jessie and Bullseye have got from their cells and trap Buzz under a toy box. Jessie and Bullseye shove a tortilla under the door and outside and Mr. Potato Head is able to put his body parts into the tortilla and use it as a body.

Ken has been in his element while showing off his clothes and Barbie manages to pin him down after Ken has returned from behind the clothes screen and demands to know what Lotso has done to Buzz and how do they switch him back. Woody and Slinky catapult the door key over to Jessie in the caterpillar room while the tortilla Mr Potato Head signals from outside that it is safe to unlock the door and the toys venture into the playground being careful to mind the search lights. Barbie has tied Ken up and starts ripping his clothes so he'll tell her how to fix Buzz. Ken tries to resist but eventually tells Barbie that there's an instruction manual and that Lotso switched Buzz to demo mode. Barbie dresses in one of Ken's spacesuit outfits and goes to the bookworn for the instruction manual to Buzz and then hands it over to Woody and Slinky who are now in the ceiling.

Mr Potato Head, still with his tortilla body signals to Woody and continues with the plan, unfortunately a pigeon has spotted him and takes a couple of nips before he can scare it away, the nips cause the tortilla to split into three pieces and they fall to the floor leaving Mr Potato Head stuck. Meanwhile Buzz manages to escape his jail as Woody, Slinky and Barbie return to the caterpillar room. Hamm and Rex manage to recapture him though and pin him down. Barbie undoes the screws in his back and Woody tries changing the switch back to play several times.....but it's not working. Hamm is reading the instructions and tells them about Buzz's master reset button. Rex presses it with his finger but holds it down for too long......Buzz has been reset..... but to Spanish mode and starts acting and talking Spanish, but at least now he half friendly again.

Woody grabs Buzz and they all head outside and meet up with the other toys, all except Mr Potato Head. When Buzz see's Jessie he is mesmerized with her and showers her with compliments in Spanish which Jessie finds a bit odd. Mr Potato Head now shows up , but now with a different body again announcing 'you will not believe what I have been through tonight'. The toys continue across the playground but a patrol truck separates Woody, Bullseye and the three aliens from the rest and Big Baby very nearly detects them. Buzz is still trying to woo Jessie and as they all head towards the garbage chute he feels Woody is his competition in terms of Jessie's affections and he tries to impress by opening the garbage chute door by himself. The toys clumsily make their way to the end of the chute and just as Slinky is making an exit bridge, up shows Lotso and his cronies.

Toys Tory 3 Movie Finale

Are The Toys Doomed ?

The toys are surrounded, the chatter telephone had been forced to alert Lotso, who tells the toys that their kid don't want them no more. The garbage truck is approaching and Lotso gives the toys the option of going back to the caterpillar room and to rejoin the 'family'to avoid the truck, Jessie tells him that this is a prison and she'd rather rot in the dumpster than join any family of Lotso's. Ken shows up and stands up for Barbie but he gets tossed across the dumpster by Lotso to join her, he tries to tell all the toys that sunnyside could be cool and groovy if it wasn't for Lotso but Lotso's Cronies don't want to concur with him. Lotso tells the toys 'I didn't throw you away, your kid did. Ain't one kid ever loved a toy really. Chew on that when you're at the dump'. As the garbage truck is getting ever closer Woody asks Lotso 'what about Daisy ?'

Lotso tell Woody he doesn't know what he's talking about so Woody explains Daisy lost them and that she had only replaced him, not the others, and he'd been lying to Big baby and that Daisy loved him too. Big Baby gets upset and Lotso goes over the top yelling at him to not be such a Big Baby and strikes him. Big Baby realizes and he picks Lotso up and throws him into the dumpster and closes the lid. Big Baby blows a raspberry to Lotso and the toys start to scramble across the dumpsters lid but one of the alien toys gets stuck in the lid, in his efforts to lift the lid Woody gets his leg grabbed by Lotso, who drags him into the garbage with him. The garbage truck arrives and starts to lift the dumpster. All the toys, except Barbie and Ken, jump on and they are all thrown into the truck as the dumpster gets emptied and covered in trash. The toys surface and try to reach each other but another dumpster is about to be emptied. Jessie is stuck but Buzz notices, he rushes to save her and in the process of returning her to her friends he heroically gets hit by a TV set. As the toys lift the TV off of him they think its lights out for their friend but as he comes around he is back to his old self, though a little confused about where they are and where he has been.Woody tells him 'beyond infinity space ranger'.

The garbage truck comes to a stop and the toys feel the garbage moving, the truck is offloading its load at the dump. The three alien toys see a giant claw in the distance and make their way to it but are scooped up by a dumper and before the toys can react another dumper is scooping them onto a conveyor belt. As the belt takes the toys along suddenly Slinky, being metal, is drawn upwards to a magnet running above the conveyor. He notices a chipper, chopping up the garbage, and the toys all heading straight for it. He warns the others and Buzz tells the toys to all grab something metal and one by one the toys are all drawn up to the magnet. The toys think they are all safe and sound when they hear Lotso calling up from the conveyor, first Woody and then Buzz drop back to the conveyor and manage to free Lotso just in time and they are all lifted back up to the magnet and pass over the chipper in safety.

On the other side of the chipper Lotso thanks them but Woody notices the toys are no longer there. They hear shouting from below and drop down to where the other toys have gone into the chipped pieces of garbage back on the conveyor where Rex thinks he can see daylight but Woody quickly realizes that it is in fact an incinerator and the toys are heading straight to it. The toys start to run in the opposite direction to the conveyor, Lotso is struggling but sees a button to stop the belt and shouts Woody for help. Woody and Buzz give Lotso a shove up to help him on his way but when he gets to the button he refuses to push it and asks the toys 'where's your kid now ?' and disappears as the toys go over the edge of the conveyor towards the incinerator. The toys can see the flames rising as they slip towards them being carried by the natural fall of the garbage. They all try to scramble upwards towards safety but sadly realize they are beat and the uphill fight is one they are set to lose. Emotionally the toys all grab and hold each others hands to face their ends together. As they stare into the flames, awaiting their fate, a claw comes down from the sky and scoops them all out. The little alien toys have rescued them !

Back on safe ground the toys suggest looking for Lotso so they can 'loosen his stiching' but Woody tells them to 'forget it, he's not worth it'. Lotso meantime is picked up by a garbage truck worker and gets his comeuppance by being tied to grille at the front of his garbage truck as a mascot along with some other teddies who tell Lotso he may want to keep his mouth shut, probably because of all the flies at the dump. The remaining toys decide to head back home in hopes of finding Andy still there. They hitch a ride on another garbage truck and make it just in time to clean each other up with the hose and get up into Andy's room. They pile into a box with attic wrote on the side, while Woody says his touching goodbyes and then heads for the college box. Woody watches Andy's mum say a tearful goodbye to Andy through a hole in his box and as their backs turn for a short while Woody runs to the attic box and starts to write a note. Andy turns and reads the note attached to the attic box and then heads off in his car to college. On route Andy pulls up and removes the box from his car, he approaches a garden and Bonnie is there, playing with her toys. The note had told Andy to donate the toys to Bonnie, the little girl with a big imagination. He tells her he needs someone special to play with them and starts to unpack them, telling Bonnie each of their names as he does one by one and explaining each one's traits to her. Andy finishes and tells Bonnie that these guys mean a lot to him but Bonnie notices Woody still in the bottom of the box, Andy wonders how he got in there and is reluctant to hand Woody over to Bonnie. He explains Woody's qualities and asks Bonnie if she could take care of him, handing him over. Andy then picks up Hamm and starts a make believe playtime with Bonnie and all the toys have fun with Andy for the last time, all playing alongside Bonnie's toys as well. Its time for Andy to leave and as he gets back to his car he's taken aback as Bonnie raises Woody's hand and waves a goodbye to him. Andy leaves and drives away as he say's to himself 'thanks guys' to all the toys. Bonnie is taken in for some lunch while the toys sit on the porch and watch Andy drive away.
They're ready to be played with for years to come just yet.
