movie is not only entertaining to watch but has a strong and hopeful message that to succeed you must be true to your heart.Disney's Mulan is having difficulty fitting in to conventional society at the start of the movie. She is meeting with a Matchmaker who is trying to find her a suitor, but Mulan does not fit in to the role of graceful and demure future wife.
But events take a dangerous turn when the Huns led by Shan Yu invade China. Each family has to present a soldier to fight, but Mulan is the only child of an elderly father Fa Zhou. Mulan bravely takes her father's place to fight to save the family honor. Mulan is perhaps the most selfless of the Disney Princesses - she makes the choice to take the place of her father to save his life.
Disney's 36th animation movie was released on June 19th 1998 . If you are looking for a Disney movie which truly will entertain every member of the family then Mulan is a great choice. Mulan is a Disney Princess with courage and strength - an inspiration for any age. Amazing animation, a compelling story and a beautiful soundtrack make Disney's Mulan one of the most enjoyable Disney movie's.

The Mulan movie shows the Disney amazing attention to detail. The production team spent 3 weeks in China so that they would be inspired to get the overall view and details of the Mulan movie just right. The result is one of the most enjoyable Disney animation productions ever made.
The overall feel of the movie is Simplicity. The Mulan character is willing to sacrifice everything to save her father. She knows that if he goes to war he will be killed so she makes the courageous decision that she will take his place.
The evolution of the character of Disney's Mulan is perhaps the biggest journey of any of the Disney Princess movies. Mulan shows that selfless courage can triumph. One of the most significant scenes of the Mulan movie is when everyone bows before her. She has shown that if you use your brain and your physical ability you can outsmart all the competition. Mulan is perhaps the most feminist of the Disney movies. The moral is 'To Thine Own Self Be True'.

Disney Mulan Reflection
The song Reflection was written and produced by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel for Mulan in 1998. and is a key point in the movie. Mulan is questioning her role in society and deciding what action she should take to help her father. Reflection was the break through single for recording artist Christina Aguilera - reaching number 19 of the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The Reflection music video was filmed at Disney Epcot's China Pavillion (one of my favorite places at Disney world).
The song Refelction requires amazing range and vocal skill which suited Christina Aguilera, a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse veteran, beautifully.

Mulan is one of the most stunningly beautiful of the Disney animated movies. Hans Bacher the production designer for Mulan transformed the look of the movie by integrating simple Chinese design styles. The idea was to have a sense of scale but always to have in mind the Simplistic style which is so characteristic of Chinese art.
Chen Yi Chang used shapes to define personality. Many of the design ideas are based on the dominant S shape so often seen in Chinese art. So the character of Mulan is based around this S shape which you will also see used in the architecture depicted in the movie - most particularly on the characteristic shapes of the roofs on the buildings.
This book explores the design process and is a fascinating insight into how the art of Mulan evolved.
