I am somewhat surprised to see you say you see little value in the counter service meal plan. When we went last fall, the last thing my kids wanted to do was sit through table service and I really didn't find the food to be worth it. We vowed not to do the meal plan again because while we loved zipping our card through for snacks and counter service, the table meals were a drag. I was thrilled to find the counter service plan, and will be buying a plan again only because of it. Also, I cannot imagine stomaching the deluxe meal plan, yikes, wayyyyyy too much food for a human to consume!! Maybe you are traveling wothout kids, but mine want to play play play, not sit around in a restaurant, they can do that at home!

My wife and I purchased a Disney World Dining Plan during a stay in 2003. It was well worth the expense! The California Grille on the top floor of the Contemporary Resort provide great food with with even better view of the fireworks display in the evening. I remember Spoodles (Mediterranean) on the Disney Boardwalk being a dinner to remember. Portabello's Yacht Club at Downtown Disney was also a favorite, with high marks for both food and ambiance.
The best part of the plan? There was always soooo much food provided that my wife was never able to finish her dessert - so I got 2.
