Visit Celebration
When Disney envisaged the EPCOT theme park he saw a futuristic place where people could live, work and play. The closest Disney ever got was the town of Celebration. Although many would say that Celebration is just another ordinary large community, it is a nice place to spend some time. Check out the lake side walks or take a tour of the Celebration Hotel. Have a traditional English cream tea at Sherlocks in the town square - unfortunately not free but worth a splurge.

Think of Disney World and you think of Cinderella's Castle. So what are some of it's secrets?
It is 189 feet tall but looks much larger. How do they do this? By using a technique known as forced perspective. This is where the Disney Imagineers play with scale in the real world to make things look bigger.
So the homes on Main Street are not actual size although they appear to be. Look closely and you will see that the stories get smaller as they go up. Having them actual size would make guests fell too enclosed. This trick of scale also helps make Cinderella's Castle look bigger. The bricks get smaller as you go up the castle, and the architectural details are all smaller than you expect. You have to look very very closely though to see the reality!

The end of the fireworks means thousands of people leaving the park. All at the same time. Now remember that the only way to get back to the parking lot is either by boat or monorail. So if getting home quickly is important think about watching the fireworks from Main Street - so that you are ahead of the crowds. Then walk quickly, or if you still have the energy, run to the monorail or boat. Otherwise you may have a very long wait in line!
Another idea is to save your shopping until the end of the day. The Disney World Main Street stores will still be open ( and usually crowded) until well after park closing.

Following the success but realizing the limitations, of Disneyland, Walt Disney set his sights to building a whole new Disney World. Starting around 1963 Walt started to send his team, including his brother Roy, to look for a location to build his dream. It was decided that Florida would be the perfect location. The search for land for Project X was over, but the buying process was clouded in secrecy.Disney executives did not want to alert anyone that Disney was buying land. They knew the price would soon go up if the purchaser's identity was known. Disney set up many different companies to buy the land to disguise the buyer's true identity. One of those was Retlaw - Walter spelled backwards.
Walt Disney bought 27,443 acres for a little over $5 million. The price per acre was around $180. Speculation was rife as to who was buying all that land. Following Walt's press conference announcement the price of the surrounding land went to $80,000 per acre.
