Why not check out a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel?

The Disney World resort hotels are amazing places. My personal favorite is Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Just hang out and people watch in one of the amazingly comfortable sofas in the lobby. Or view the animals on one of the savannas which surround the Animal Kingdom Lodge Hotel. You can see giraffe and zebra and even view the animals at night using night vision glasses!

A Walt Disney World Hotel Tour

Many of the resort hotels offer a free tour to those staying on Disney property. These little known tours include a tour of Animal Kingdom Lodge, Fort Wilderness and The Grand Floridian. Some require a reservation so ask at Guest Services. Free for all Disney resort guests.

Watch the Disney Electrical Water Pageant

You can watch this Disney water parade for free. A little known parade which floats around the Magic Kingdom lagoon every night. You can watch it from The Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, Wilderness and Fort Wilderness Resort.

Just hang out at The Boardwalk

A fabulous Coney Island themed area with restaurants, shops and the EPCOT resort hotels. Sit and relax on the beach around the lake and watch the world go by. Parking in the Boardwalk parking lot is free for up to 3 hours.

Visit Celebration

When Disney envisaged the EPCOT theme park he saw a futuristic place where people could live, work and play. The closest Disney ever got was the town of Celebration. Although many would say that Celebration is just another ordinary large community, it is a nice place to spend some time. Check out the lake side walks or take a tour of the Celebration Hotel. Have a traditional English cream tea at Sherlocks in the town square - unfortunately not free but worth a splurge.

This will be a fabulous finale to your trip to Disney's Magic Kingdom. This fireworks display really shows Disney to be the leader in theme park entertainment. From Tinkerbell's daring flight to the amazing music and fireworks this truly is Disney at it's best.

The end of the fireworks means thousands of people leaving the park. All at the same time. Now remember that the only way to get back to the parking lot is either by boat or monorail. So if getting home quickly is important think about watching the fireworks from Main Street - so that you are ahead of the crowds. Then walk quickly, or if you still have the energy, run to the monorail or boat. Otherwise you may have a very long wait in line!
Another idea is to save your shopping until the end of the day. The Disney World Main Street stores will still be open ( and usually crowded) until well after park closing.

Did you know that you can go on a tour behind the scenes at the Magic Kingdom?
A popular guided tour is Keys To The Kingdom. This $58 tour, lasting about five hours, shows you the operational secrets of the Magic Kingdom. View the utilidors ( the corridors and tunnels under the park) the parade assembly area and the waste treatment plant. Disney World park guests must be at least 16 years old and general admission is also required.
The Keys To The Kingdom Tour is well worth exploring - particularly those who have visited the Magic Kingdom before and want to know more about what goes on behind the scenes.

Following the success but realizing the limitations, of Disneyland, Walt Disney set his sights to building a whole new Disney World. Starting around 1963 Walt started to send his team, including his brother Roy, to look for a location to build his dream. It was decided that Florida would be the perfect location. The search for land for Project X was over, but the buying process was clouded in secrecy.

Disney executives did not want to alert anyone that Disney was buying land. They knew the price would soon go up if the purchaser's identity was known. Disney set up many different companies to buy the land to disguise the buyer's true identity. One of those was Retlaw - Walter spelled backwards.

Walt Disney bought 27,443 acres for a little over $5 million. The price per acre was around $180. Speculation was rife as to who was buying all that land. Following Walt's press conference announcement the price of the surrounding land went to $80,000 per acre.

Florida has great weather but of course it does rain sometimes! But Disney thinks of everything. They even build systems into their attractions to keep guests as comfortable as possible and avoid the elements.
Space Ship Earth, the giant geodesic dome which dominates EPCOT is fitted with a gutter system at the belt line of the sphere. This catches the rain water and funnels it into the World Showcase Lagoon. Those people at Disney really do think of everything!
