Find Degree Programs Online

Some are coming from other countries for an American online education. Others are moving immediately on from bachelors degree programs rather than trying to enter a tight job market. Professionals going back to school to advance their education also are among the students participating in a diverse array of graduate school programs throughout the country.

Many freshmen students have been reporting that they want to become financially well off and that they intend to move on to a masters degree after obtaining their bachelors degrees. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that, in general, income levels increase as college and university degree levels increase. Professionals returning to school, on the other hand, might have different goals in mind. One executive, a doctoral degree candidate for example, cited a desire to make a difference in the world.

To demonstrate the growth of masters degree programs particularly, the New York Times recently mentioned that Arizona State University since 2005 has established 25 new masters degree offerings. Many institutions offer graduate degrees in areas that can lead to in-demand careers, such as technology, engineering and health care. Graduate degree programs also come in a variety of formats, such as online degrees, that might make continued education more convenient for students.

At Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, students interested in traditional and online degrees at the graduate level can choose from programs such as pharmaceutical marketing, computer science, environmental protection safety management, health administration and more. One of the focuses in nursing has been on getting registered nurses to advance their education and move into advanced practice specialties and nurse education. Northeastern University in Boston has expanded a graduate degree program for nurse anesthetics. Florida's Mountain State University Orlando this year added a graduate program for registered nurses who want to train to become nurse educators.

The focuses for MBA programs have been in sustainability, international business and leadership. Graduate students at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H., on Nov. 30, begin classes in a new MBA program. It's a "green" MBA in Energy & Sustainability Studies. A growing number of business schools are also offering doctoral programs for senior-level business managers who want to move into teaching careers or integrate research skills into the workplace, an August 2009 Bloomberg Businessweek article noted.

Time-saving graduate programs might allow students to more easily obtain their degrees and advance within their fields or embark upon new careers. RN to MSN programs, for instance, allow registered nurses with hospital diplomas or associate degrees to move immediately on to a graduate degree. Vanderbilt University makes available an RN to MSN program that allows nurses to take an online degree course in between spending blocks of time at the Tennessee campus. Students with bachelors degrees in other disciplines might participate in accelerated graduate nursing programs offered by Regis and Creighton universities, located respectively in Colorado and Nebraska. In California, Azusa Pacific University in June introduced a Millennium Master's in Business Administration program that involves campus and international studies and takes 13 months to complete.

Accredited Online Degrees Are Just A Click Away

In September, Bowling Green State University in Ohio initiated another type of program that students with undergraduate degrees might consider. The institution's professional development certificate, priced at $199, covers areas ranging from communication to coaching. Students enrolled in professional certificate programs such as this might gain valuable management skills while also enhancing professional credentials.

Some businesses might even cover the cost of online certificate programs or offer tuition reimbursement benefits for graduate degree programs. There are also a variety of scholarships, grants and fellowships that can help students pay for graduate degree studies. Scholarships, fellowships and grants are often available from non-profit foundations, large corporations and professional associations as they are colleges and universities themselves. In addition to making sure colleges and universities are accredited by a nationally recognized agency, graduate students might also want to determine whether the masters degree programs themselves are accredited by a professional organization.

I'm getting my Master's online. I prefer "regular" class because of its structure, but the 4 universities in my town down offer any of the programs I was interested in. I didn't want to relocate, so online works best for me
