Distance Learning College

Attending a distance learning college is a great way for working adults, mothers, fathers and others with obligations in their life to continue their education while still meeting the demands of day to day life.

Although it sounds great, attending a distance learning college takes self motivation and more discipline than attending a typical or local college. There is no one there to push you if you fall behind, and making the time for your education falls squarely on your shoulders.

With that being said, many working adults or parents don't have the time to work, support a family and attend a traditional college. It is not an option to stop working, so looking into distance learning colleges and universities can be the perfect choice for you to obtain your online degree.

What you should know about distance learning colleges and universities

If you are employed full time and wish to expand your education, a distance learning college might give the solution for you. Since those who are employed full time cannot usually afford to simply quit working to pursue a degree, many do not finish the education that they want in order to advance in their chosen career. By exploring online education, it is possible to enhance your resume, obtain your degree, while at the same time meeting your obligations in your day to day life.

One advantage of using a distance learning college is the price difference compared to attending a traditional college. As materials can be reused among students and each student requires less professor time, the cost to attend a distance learning college is much less. If you have limited savings, distance learning colleges can help you get the credits required to get your degree.

If the cost is what is holding you back, you may also look into scholarships. There are many scholarships that go hand in hand with distance learning, and many go unclaimed every year. For example, there are numerous scholarships for mothers available, looking into financial aid can further help your situation.

In addition to lower cost tuition, distance learning college is more "adult" friendly. It is possible to choose the number of credits that you want to take, plus you can structure your education time around your work and family schedules. If you can only handle one course at a time, it is possible to do so with most distance learning programs.

Additionally, students can often pick their own pace to work at. However, there are deadlines for tests and quizzes. This helps to make sure that students are keeping up with their studies. Due to the distance aspect, there are often more quizzes given by professors, as it is harder to judge a student's progress online. This can make a distance learning college harder than attending a traditinal college, as you have a bit more work, plus must be self motivated to complete it on your own time.

In almost all aspects, from admission to tuition fees, distance learning colleges are not that much different than attending in person. You will want to give transcriptions in most cases, as well as give proof that you have completed high school. The longer that you have been out of high school, however, the easier it is for you to be admitted, even if you dropped out of high school. If you have not completed high school, you will want to choose your distance learning college carefully. You will likely need to also pass entrance exams to ensure that your education level is sufficient to successfully complete your education with that particular college.

When you choose a distance learning college, you will also want to make sure they are accredited. An accredited distance learning degree has the same value as a degree from a school you attended in person. The fact that you did all of your learning from home does not matter, the coursework is the same, and the degree will look the same on your resume as one from a traditional college.

If you are a busy adult with a job and family, distance learning may be your best chance at completing your college degree. It is a great goal to have, and just because you have already started your "real life" does not mean you cannot also get the education you deserve. Don't give up, look into a distance learning college and you may be surprised at how well it can work for you!

Distance Learning Wikipedia

Distance education, or distance learning, is a field of education that focuses on the pedagogy and andragogy, technology, and instructional systems design that aim to deliver education to students who are not physically "on site". "Agriculture distance education: A valid alternative for higher education? Proceedings of the National Agricultural Education Research Meeting67-73 In other words, distance learning is the process of creating an educational experience of equal qualitative value for the learner to best suit their needs outside the classroom. Excellent lens for those who would like to earn online college degrees in whichever field they desire. The main advantage to home study is that you have that much needed flexibility allowing you to mould or rather sculpt your degree programme around your current life situation. Excellent work nonetheless.

I used distant learning to study marketing while I was working full time at a computer job. Like you mentioned it is hard to stay motivated and disciplined at times but when you get use to pushing yourself distant learning becomes a wonderful opportunity.

I was able to work full time during the day and then learn at night via a distant learning college. Highly recommended.

I have taken a couple of distance learning courses and they have worked out great, but you are right, you need a lot of discipline and motivation. My Mum completed her whole Bachelors Degree of English by distance, whilst raising 3 kids - a serious accomplishment.

Seeking education and knowledge is never a waste of time. Great info in your lens. It's so true that when we think of distance learning, we usually think that it is easier than attending a regular college but in some ways it does take way more self-discipine and you do need to find your own motivation as no one will be there to push you along.
