Stand Out From the MySpace Crowd

We all want to be individuals and we all want to get noticed. As a MySpace user you might want to find some ways to make your profile a little different from everyone else's. One way to do this is to change your layout: choose a nicer color scheme, an unusual font, or even a background image.

There are hundreds of websites out there that offer free basic layouts for MySpace. You can download these and add them to your profile but you'll probably find some other users with the same one.

You can take things a step further with a div overlay which completely transforms the layout into something different.

Finally if you fancy rolling up your sleeves and playing with a bit of code I'll show you some techniques that you can use to make yourself truly original. You can use these techniques to give your MySpace page exactly the same style as your website.

So let's get started...

Let's Get Started with Some Simple Premade MySpace Layouts

Here's a simple way to get started. Sites such as Pimp My Profile offer free premade MySpace layouts which you just download and add to your profile.

Simply copy the code and paste into the About Me section of your profile.

These sites offer a great selection of background images, with different colors and fonts too. How about Anime, something religious, or your favorite stars on your profile? There's a huge choice.

Take Things Further with DIV Overlays

If you want to get a little more sophisticated then DIV overlays allow way more flexibility on your MySpace layout. These allow you to change the number of columns and the overall layout of the page, so you can create something very different.

DIVOverlay.com even provides a DIV overlay generator. How about 2 columns, or 3 columns, or even multiple boxes? You can choose from any of these, select your colors and fonts and even set a background image of your choice.

It's Time to Get Really Individual

If you want to really show your individuality then one way is to have a unique profile which no one else has. You won't get anything truly unique from many of these 'premade' sites but with a little bit of reading, a dash of editing and a touch of care you can create something truly original.

The possibilities are endless (well, almost) here as you are removing the standard MySpace layout and replacing it with your own custom version. The technique uses web code (HTML and CSS) so you can edit this yourself.

A good place to start is the Custom MySpace Overlay Squidoo lens, which shows some neat examples and some links to a tutorial.
